30m is asking a bit much. But you are right that we could have spent more. I think we could have brought in another player for say, 15m. But hopefully we will just have that money to spend this year instead. I like the idea of staying within our financial means. Even if we get relegated, which I do not think will happen. Anything is still better than those grim 2006-2009 years.
5-3-2 is simply too negative. If he wanted to nick a goal and win 1-0 then 4-2-3-1 is surely better for that with Davis in the three behind the centre forward. With us playing more of a possession game.
Something that was said in the week. When you're not playing well or not scoring, going open is not the way. Keeping it tight and trying to nick one makes sense.
How many teams play 5 at the back successfully in the PL? And btw it's 1:1 in the second half. We lost the first half 0:1
Not always the same system and we've certainly not been trying to control the game with possession football like we used to under Pochettino and Adkins.
We're losing and under pressure that we weren't under in the first half. I completely understand why RK sent a team out to keep it tight, at least initially. We're bereft of confidence right now and you need to build from a solid base.
Exactly. 5 at the back is garbage. No one plays it successfully. We can't score with it in open play, so what's the point in playing it.
We're losing late in the second half. We're playing with one less centre back, playing with an attacker instead. Of course the game is opening up. We want the game to be opening up. We need a goal. Juanmi is also on the pitch over Davis.
I'm just trying to point out that this game just isn't as simple as you want to try and make it sound sometimes. There are myriad unaccountables and a huge amount of ways in which to try and alter things. Saying that one solution is "pathetic" or "shocking" is just reducing what the issues are a ridiculous amount.
It's so rare that anyone can actually say "that's correct" and "that's wrong" with any genuine certainty. There's so much confirmation bias in this place it's scary.
We need to cut out the stupid mistakes. We are making far too many. Yes, it is up to the players to execute, but part of the manager's job is to ensure that they do. I don't think you can excuse Koeman from our lack of focus or confidence or whatever this is. However, tactically I don't see the issue. We've not been dominated and in fact should have won or at least drawn several of the games we lost based on general run of play. We are one of the best looking horrible teams I've seen play. Not sure at this point whether that is Reason for optimism or just even more depressing. But it is a man management issue, not one of tactics.
