That's ok.. we don't need you to rate him for us to know that he makes a lot of difference to our midfield at the moment and could become a cracking player.

I agree - it is risky, but he'll make no more mistakes than Lovren or Skrtel who are far more experienced. I'm not saying Ilori is the answer but we need players, even aas a back up - he's already ours and we can recall him.

Same with Gomez when he's back next season - two highly talented defenders who need to play. They will make mistakes but they have the intelligence and ability to improve and learn from them. U

Summary - I would rather persist with Ilori, Gomez over someone like Skrtel. Ideal scenario is we bring in someone like Hummels. Pipedream ...

His positioning, reading of the game, tackling, ability on the ball, composure on the ball, ability to take players on, ability to pick a pass, work rate, strength, power, speed.

Central midfielders rarely get plaudits unless they're running 40 yards and scoring screamers. He does the important grunt work.

Still unsure (not cared to really find out) why Agger left. Wrong move imo.

I am not so against Skrtel as yourself, but I admit he is error prone. Gomez is pure quality again, and given a full pre season, or something similar, he could perform highly in a few defensive positions, looks so clever on the ball and everything ive read about him, is just resounding praise, from his character to his ability, to his freakish physique!

I'm sure quite a few. But what shall we do? Sell a talented youngster because he may not come good without giving him a chance? Lol. You do amuse me!

Cos he was on as much wages as Sturridge, missed as many games as Sturridge, but didn't win us as many games as Sturridge

I think it was a mistake to sell him. He was never as injured as Sturridge is now..

Don't often agree with you Jimmy because I think you rely on FM too much instead of your eyes but, on Illori I do agree, he has looked very promising on the occasions I have seen him play.

It's about movement and space. On Saturday we tried to counter two big, strong (lumbering?0 centre-backs by getting a big-strong, lumbering centre forward to stand next to one of them every time we had the ball. Tonight we tried to run two big centre-backs ragged with the ball mostly on the ground. That's our game, and to be fair to benteke, if we want to play the former type we should but back carroll to partner benteke and get Gerrard back to take our dead-ball kicks. Or, we could look at our squad and play to its strengths. What we do need though is to better able to stand up to long-ball teams with physicality, such as Watford, West Brom and Uniturd.

    Good welcome unexpected win.

But the win has come at a great cost. If coutinho and Lovren are going to miss several matches especially key premiership ones.

Yeah but... where'd we press and close best.... CM and on thier full backs.

Firmino did well with them but seriously it's more than just the none position that actually manned up and did their jobs tonight.

Was it system 433... was it Klopp laying it von the line. . Was it tactic designed for stoke. ..was it kicking benteke out....

I think injuries are more acceptable/understandable in younger players, their bodies are still developing which often leads to muscle strains/pulls. I know he is a United player but I will note Giggs in this, he suffered hamstring pulls all the time when young but went on to play until 40 with very few problems after 24/25.
