I read some interesting comments about our midfield from Neil recently, which I now can't find!

The gist seemed to be that we had athletic midfielders and midfielders who are good on the ball, but nobody who can do both. Therefore he feels he has to find the right blend for each match. To me, that seems harsh on Mulumbu and Vadis who potentially can do both, but also maybe hints Neil wants a more complete midfielder? Dare I say it, but Fer is probably the closest we've had to that of late.

Also, apparently Vadis and his agent met with Neil about moving on in January, as the player was worried about his lack of game time. Neil recognised he currently saw Wes and Redmond as ahead of him in the positions he suits, but promised him game time. Hasn't that paid off this weekend!

I hope Neil now sees Vadis as a genuine option now, based on his last performance I would hate to see him move on.

I hope Vadis gets a chance now as well. He earned us at least 2 points yesterday and he certainly has the combination of athleticism and skills (as does Howson, IMO). I'd hate to lose him as well, as he could make all the difference in coming games. I'd play him instead of O'Neil who gave the ball away dangerously several times yesterday. Jarvis is another option instead of Redmond.

Was this the article, DH? http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2016/01/02/18928762/-

I agree RER. Redmond was the subject of apparent Scouser interest and I wouldn't be too disheartened if he moved on in the window. It is strange that our defence whixh has been the main area of disconent on the board appears to have tightened considerabl over recent games, I wonder how much of the credit can go to R Bennett and our goalkeeper. Sometimes thankfully football is not all about your cheque book.

I suspect Vadis will be starting the next game, replacing Redmond. Think Redmond is more of an impact sub, someone to come on when the other team defense are tired.

Unlike most on here, I do like Redmond. He does make good crosses and passes.

Seems to me Wisdom has to take the credit. After all if he hadn't have got injured against Everton, AN wouldn't have had to move Martin to RB and bring Bennett in. All we need now is for Remond or Hoolahan to get a slight injury so that Vadis can get the chance he deserves.

I like Redmond I think he's very talented just needs to add consistency. I do wonder if he needs some time out at the moment. Vadis also deserves a run in the side.

I think Vadis should start ahead of Redmond especially against Stoke. Redmond has not played particularly well in either of our last 2 games.

I was thinking it's the way we're playing, doesn't really suit his style. Where as I think Vadis showed us that he's probably more suited in that role and I'd like to see him start there more often.

I'd agree. Don't get me wrong I like Redmond and wouldn't sell him, but he's still young and developing and needs time. He's ideal as an impact sub. I think Vadis would stand up better against some of the more physical Stoke players.

Yep impact sub for me. Redmond has the capacity to scare tired defences and was exceptional in the Championship but is still too raw to be starting regularly in the PL and expecting him to maintain his level. Let's not forget he was probably our best player in the opening five games this season. Selling him should be out of the question

I think that's true. We're not playing with a massive amount of width, letting the full backs get forward.

I do wonder if when Jarvis is fit we may go for more width and Redmond would fit in better.

I thought this earlier today. With pace & direct running down both flanks, we'd pose more of a threat on counter attacks. Not sure what Olsson has done wrong to be benched yesterday? Brady wide left and Redmond right would have tested Saints
defence more.

Olsson has been our weakest defender over the last month IMO. Good going forward but got shown up against Tottenham and Man U at the back.

Especially if we get Pinto who has serious pace (granted that's all I really know about him) we'd have really dangerous wings.
