Eh, Livermore was our best player in both of the last two games?

He wasn't yesterday, he definitely was on Boxing Day but the difference between the two performances was mental, not sure I've seen anything like that in a long time.

Wells is the only one I can think of that would score goals and not cost us a ridiculous amount of money. Of course we could have had him for free under Brownie, but never mind.

The poor bloke played the entire first half as our only central midfielder (Meyler having gone AWOL) and he was still our best player.

Perhaps you're right and I'm being unfair, I just took it at face value and saw that he was nowhere near as good as Saturday, it didn't occur to me that Meyler was responsible.

Every transfer window people on here bang on about strikers. The strikers aren't the problem; in fact, I'd say buying a striker in January would be a waste of money. Hernandez is our best player with Dawson injured. Diomande has yet to play a decent run of games. It's the midfield that's the fundamental problem and has been for years. Livermore, Huddlestone and Diame are all great players but sometimes they don't play to a standard we expect of them. Meyler has a few good games but he's an average Championship player overall. We don't really have an experienced defensive midfielder or box-to-box midfielder. Wingers are fine, I think. It's been said more times than enough but we're crying out for a player like Ashbee, perhaps with a bit more technical ability, to be our midfield general. We haven't had a player like that since he left. If we had a player like that, the other midfielders would have a bit more freedom to be creative in the middle and play more through balls.

I was hoping we got Butterfield because he's a great box-to-box player. A defensive midfielder the media linked us to was Emmanuel Badu from Udinese but he was probably too expensive and we could only sign a player like that if we sold Huddlestone for £5M plus.
Disagree about the wingers ours are average to poor , also think we could do with another forward we know nothing of diomande and only have hernandez

Elmo has been gash all season and struggles when faced with a fb who can match his pace , clucas is very average and shouldn't be playing for a top end championship club and if he plays snodgrass or Maloney ten times nine of them will be in the false number nine position Bruce loves

These strikers are all pointless, Bamford, Wells, even Aguero would be a total waste of time in this team. What's the point in getting nippy off the shoulder strikers in a team that attempts a whopping 7 through balls per season? All our play is in the air, the balls forward, the balls into the box, we may as well sign Weeman he'd do just as good a job.
We've
What we need to do is get rid of all our strikers save for Hernandez and replace them all with centre halves.

id probably disagree on snodgrass but I'll give you the rest

We're not doing too bad after all then. Sitting 3rd with poor to average players, We're punching well above our weight. Time for a bit of support for our over achieving players.

For me its obvious what we need to buy in the January transfer window..

We need a leader in midfield, someone who can rally the players, knock heads together and dictate the way we play. Dawson can do most of that from defence but you really need a leader in midfield.

Too often do we start games slowly and struggle to really get going, well if you've got the right player in midfield all that changes. We need a player who will encourage us to attack quickly, switch the play etc.. like Reading have with Norwood, or Leeds have with Mowatt, most teams have one and I think if Brucey can find the right player, it might just take one new player to be that missing piece of the jigsaw.
