Some might remember I slaughtered Wanyama once in a game last season. I think was Hull City away. He either genuinely wasn't trying or he was injured.

But this season he's done ok for me. He's even winning the ball back more than last season , more interceptions per game, more blocks per game, more clearances per game, more free kicks won per game, dispossessed less, more passes completed per game, even more key passes per game! Rather harsh to suggest he's not trying his best!!

I think been he has been similar to last year personally and has tried to get about a bit more to make up for Schneidetrlin's absence. The defence has just been very shaky, we've been wasteful in front of goal and he hasn't found a DM partner yet. Again I will say that personally I think Reed would compliment him best. The stats suggest Reed is our best ball winner. Reed is actually classed statically as 'very strong' for tackles and interceptions, that's extremely rare. He covers loads of ground. I think he'd be a great DM partner for Wanyama. One small feisty ball-winning DM that will run all game for you, one big strong ball-winning DM is a good combination imo

Well he scored vs Hull City away last year when we won 1-0 - so don't think that's right.

Why does everything become black and white when a team loses games? We lose, and people (some people I admit) say we are a terrible team with poor players, and a manager who hasn't got a clue what he is doing, and has lost the respect of the players. It isn't like that.

In my opinion of course, we lack confidence. For the first twenty minutes yesterday we played some good stuff - had a good intensity and created some chances and should've scored. We didn't, and when we conceded a pathetically amateurish first goal, we folded and the game was lost by half time.
For twenty minutes against Liverpool we did the same thing, got in front, should've scored more, and then conceded a poor goal, and lost it by half time. When our chances go in, we will start to regain our confidence.

It's an easy thing to say I know, but we aren't a bad side at all: just a good one with players lacking confidence and making the wrong decisions in key areas. Koeman is just as frustrated as we are, but the least he deserves is our respect and to be given time for Christ sake. He lead us to our highest ever finish. People can say, we fell away in the second half of last season, but the facts tell us it was our best ever PL season. To consider chucking him off the bridge after a poor run, doesn't wash with me. He needs to be backed, and that includes in the transfer window.

PS. I respect that others have different opinions on this, but short memories seem too frequent nowadays. Ronald is a good manager, and our players are too, just need a bit of luck to change things and regain our confidence.

Your constant backing of Ramirez baffles me: the guy plays 20 minutes of a game, and we get "how good does he look" but then he buggers off for months because the guy is unfit and cannot cope with the intensity in this league. We've had 3 and half seasons of it. He has talent, but you can't rely on him. End of.

I think that's what RK is hoping Clasie is going to become, just with a bit of extra ability.

Agree with all of that, though I have a bit more faith in GR.

I like Reed, but "Very Strong" is not a statistic, it's an opinion. An opinion based on 5 games.

It's worked out by the stats. I.e. his tackles and interceptions per game are very high...<doh>

Tackles and interceptions won/made isn't an opinion. These stats are a fact..

He's been very good at winning the ball back when he's played. This isn't an opinion at all. Winning the ball back is a thing that actually happens. It isn't subjective or an opinion. Your response is ridiculous frankly.

He's a good player and I wish he was getting a chance, but it is 5 games.

Edit: a few games

But don't you realise, those five games obviously mean that he's the answer to our problems.

He's made thirteen Premier League appearances, not five.

It's not his fault he's not had more chances either. He's performed whenever he's played.

Didn't he get the winner?

Many years ago, I had a conversation with my mate about James Beattie, specifically about his potential as at that stage of his career, he couldn't have scored in the proverbial brothel. I suggested that he should be taken out of training, placed in a penalty area and served up with cross after cross until he actually got used to hitting the target. Remarkably, when Beattie first hit that vein of form that we all know and love him for, Hoddle stated in an interview that this is precisely what they had done! Well I suggest that that is precisely what is required now. And not just with our centre forward. The entire team seem utterly unwilling to shoot, unable to shoot accurately, unable to shoot powerfully and, most importantly, unable to shoot sensibly (you know, like at a part of the goal that the keeper either isn't in or would find it very hard to get to). I would go so far as to say that I have been embarrassed by much of the dithering, indecision and outright ****wittery that I have seen in front of goal this season. This always boils down to a simple equation in my mind - if you are being paid £x to play football at a professional level yet somehow manage to contrive to be unable to perform the most mundane of tasks in said sport, then there's very little a manager can do about it other than drop you until you pull your finger out. Ultimately, the game is about scoring more than the opposition. Who cares what the stats say, how often player x got beaten, if player x is better than player y or in a certain position or not, the fact is that we've still created buckets of chances and can't do anything with them (even whilst playing "badly").

So,if Koeman hasn't spotted this and isn't working on it then that would be my only criticism of him. Worthy of losing your job over? Well not if he acts upon it.

I secretly love buying strikers more than any other player. Just hope we can winkle out a good one in January...

I'd love Ron to pull a Dutch favour and get Remy on loan from old Guus.

We could buy another striker. But he wouldn't get any service.

Up top is not our area of greatest need, although we are a little short of options.

Yes and if you exceed some arbitrary number then you are "very strong." How much better is 4.00001 tackles per game than 3.999999 tackles per game? And what happens if I decide 4.25 tackles per game is the threshold instead of 4.0?

And what if Reed's next game is against a tough team and Wanyama has a bad game? Since he has played very few games, it will significantly impact his stats. Reed has not played enough for his numbers to have much validity.

Also, tackles and interceptions made/won ARE opinions. What constitutes an interception? Or a successful tackle?

Are you really giving me the smack forehead emoticon? I'm American, man. We invented the silly sports statistic. No one has attempted to quantify the unquantifiable as much as we have. This is the land of WAR, BABIP, OBP, UZR, LI, XFIP, ISO, GB%, and HR/FB. And that's just 1/4 of the goofy stats from ONE sport. Haven't you seen Moneyball?

Someone mentioned Alexandre Pato a little while back. I know he's over at Sao Paolo but no idea if he'd be a realistic target (or would want to relocate from Brazil again). Anyone know any more regarding him? He was touted as the next big thing whilst at Milan but seems to have lost his career path a little...

Going back to the original question posed, the answer is he should be given the same time as Klopp will get at Liverpool and that Dutch geezer at Man U - i.e. up until the time Jose decides to apply for the job!

The suggestion that we might sack him if we are flirting with relegation in February is absurd. Taking over a team in a relegation fight is far from ideal and rarely successful.

I understand what you're saying, but if we had scored more goals from the chances created recently we'd have won or drawn more of the last six

He was a sub in the 90th minute the season before....so what game was it?

http://www.11v11.com/matches/hull-city-v-southampton-11-february-2014-306837/

It obviously wasn't Hull...

"I can't remember which one it was" and "I think" should make it obvious I didn't know for sure and don't remember <laugh>

Someone might remember, but I doubt they'll remember the specific game. Maybe I never posted here that particular day, I thought I did. I remember I was really pissed off with Wanyama at the time regardless.
