    A pity, as this is not a good day and we should examine it. It's far more important than some ruins that might cause petty quarrels. We are now in a contemptible coalition, something we had time to be more thoughtful about.

    Not getting into the politics of yes or no but I find it odd how this has been reported as us being practically on the verge of war. If it is war then we've already been in it for a long while. We're already dropping bombs on Daesh targets in Syria and to a greater extent Iraq. This vote was to increase the bombing in Syria to similar levels to that in Iraq and to similar levels to what many of our allies already are in Syria. I'm not saying it's necessarily a good thing (or that it isn't) but I think it's being misreported a bit.

    Who we bombing then? ISIS, Al Nusra Front, Assad's troops or these so-called 'moderate' rebels?

    Best option would be to team up with Assad and Putin, push for a UN peacekeeping force like the one in Bosnia and absolutely destroy ISIS. They'd **** themselves if the old Cold War superpowers teamed up against 'em. Bombing is futile if we're not going to follow it up with a credible operation to root out the main cause of the problem.

    Also, sanctions against Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States and boot Turkey out of NATO.

    RAF drone strikes have taken place in Syria but combat aircraft haven't been used for bombing. The drones are based in Kuwait but the command centre is at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire. This vote now clears the way for fighter jets to bomb ISIS/Daesh in Syria.

    You are wrong. This vote was about extending the bombing, currently sanctioned in Iraq, to being sanctioned for Syrian territory. A small leap in road miles, but a massive leap in future boots on the ground - even though that is conveniently pushed aside.

    We're bombing ISIS unless you're a Russian pilot who'll bomb anything that moves.

    A Vienna peace conference is scheduled for January in an attempt to unify the warring factions against ISIS/Daesa.

    Regardless, doesn't it need doing? I'm not on about the bombing in particular, more operations across Iraq and Syria as a whole. ISIS hq is in Syria, that's their main place, what's the point in just operating in Iraq?

    More to the point, why has it taken so long for the western world to start taking some action to destroy them? We've just sat back and watched them grow in numbers, strength and perhaps more importantly - experience, whilst innocent civilians have been getting caught up and killed.
