Good omen ahead of Tuesday night's trip to the Etihad...

Trips to the blue half of Manchester have often ended in disappointment for the Tigers, but if supporters are looking for a good omen ahead of Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup Quarter-Final at the Etihad Stadium then read on.

The Tigers have just one victory from 12 attempts at Manchester City, but that solitary success came in cup competition and helped them on their way to a semi-final in the process.

Long before Steve Bruce set about rewriting our cup history with the memorable journey to the FA Cup Final two seasons ago and this year’s record-breaking League Cup run, the class of 1929/30 were the Club’s standard-bearers in cup competition.

Their run to the FA Cup semi-final was the nearest any Tigers side had come to major silverware, and remained so until Bruce’s boys went a step closer in 2014.

That run of 85 years ago included a fifth round visit to first division Manchester City, and despite being the underdogs, it was the second division Tigers that came out on top.

Billy Taylor and Bertie ‘Paddy’ Mills were the goal-scoring heroes as Bill McCracken’s side won 2-1 at Maine Road in front of a crowd of more than 61,500.

No doubt the current crop of Tigers would take a similar result at the Etihad on Tuesday.

Hull City: Gibson, Goldsmith, Howieson, Walsh, Childs, Gowdy, Taylor, Alexander, Mills, Starling, Duncan.

A good cup run but the class of 1929/30 ended up being relegated. Provided the nucleus of the team 3 seasons later(32/33) which finished top and became the only City team ever to go through a league season unbeaten at home.

That's never not going to be the case though is it? The league is always going to be important. We're never going to be not bothered about the league by November.

Why is it this way round and not the other? Maybe the league is a nuisance because it gives us more chance of getting injuries for the cup games.

I go on what the prize is. Millions of pounds or a nice trip to London?

KDB and Aguero likely to be rested, but Silva and Sterling to start for them, so will be interesting to see how we line up against them. Televised over here so I'll be watching it at the pub!

Televised live here in Canada ( plus US I suspect) on BEIN .
Likely means streams will be available most places.

I'd be very tempted to start Elmo, Dave & Diame tonight and politely ask them to right the wrongs of their horrendous performances on Friday, something along the lines of you're playing for your shirt on Sat lads, get out there and ****ing impress
