Well you've identified the problem then haven't you? The people picking the manager haven't got a ****ing clue what they are doing, and there is no reason to believe that they will fluke a good decision this time, or provide an environment that supports success. Even if we get a name most people on here like, as Nines says, it pretty certain that it will end in tears, and sooner rather than later.
As l've said elsewhere, we've just begun to show some improvement after a couple of weeks of the international break and looked more of an organised team than we have for some time so why not stay with Warnock for the remainder of the season? Another change now will unsettle yet again and we're too close to the wrong end of the table for a poor run...
I don't see any role for a DoF, if the Chief Executive knows what he's doing budget-wise the manager should identify players he wants and get on with the job without interference. There are far too many blurred roles in the club which benefit no-one...
What does Ferdinand actually do? He seems to be the world's best paid (and most useless) recruitment consultant.
That's the problem, we don't know the scope of his role, for all we know he's done some great things but because it's not visible to us we can easily use him as (yet another) scapegoat for all our woes.
What is more worrying is that we are not many points off relegation and i don't want to see experimentation under JFH. WE must play it safe and keep NW until end of season or i can see the worst thing happening.
Colin has said many times he's finished as a Manager. I reckon he'd take Les's job but not as head coach as Ramsey, and I doubt he'd take a typical Manager role with the DOF gone having said no so often. Doubt Pearson would work for Les or Hoos. Unless they scrap the DOF position or replace Les with Colin, which I suspect TF and Co haven't the gonads to do (though I think they should scrap it), we'll probably see Les chose a less experienced head coach like Ramsey, or JLH.
Why do people automatically think NW would make a good DoF? He's a football manager not an exec so what are the assumptions based on? I suspect it's just the possibly unwarranted anti SLF sentiment that is growing. Personally I think JFH might be a mistake at this stage but the situation must be resolved this week.
He has talked about Chairman of football clubs needing someone of his experience advising them in a position between the Head Coach and the Board, which seems as close to a DOF as anything. Doesn't mean he'd be good at it, but I think he has more qualifications than Les. I got the impression Les and Ramsey did a good recruitment job in the summer, and I'm not anti Les at all. But as others I wonder if a DOF is needed at all.
You're right about the clueless bit. As to ending in tears, I suppose most managerial positions end in tears (unless you hire Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger). All I want is that the appointment is someone who will be ambitious for our club, with a decent managerial track record and in whom we can have confidence...and preferably his disaster happens later not sooner, after we've enjoyed several years in the top half of the Prem...
So, did the Stoke owners have a clue when they picked up Hughes after his disaster at Loftus Road? I really don't know what people want from TF and co.
Appoint a good manager and don't interfere. If we're going for a League One manager, which isn't a bad way to go, I believe there are more proven candidates. Justin Edinburgh seems a more logical bet than Hasselbaink but I think we could do a lot worse. I just hope it's Hoos making the decision rather than Ferdinand or, God forbid, Fernandes.
Get a good enough manager and he can do the DOF role too. I wouldn't be surprised if we held on to CR much longer than we needed to because he was LF's mate.
