I think the club would be losing a manager if they elected to sell crucial players in the january window. We have only just started to build a bit of momentum and tho I see we are playing well I think this season we will only fully hit our straps in the late half of next year. Not sure why but it feels like with injuries we just lack some competition for places which will add a bit of drive to the side later. Back to my main comment tho, Koeman wont sanction or accept the sale of line leading forwards without his own reasons and overuling him will be the start of a rapid decline I reckon. Cant see the c,ub heading down that way.

I find it odd how very concerned people get at Ramirez's wages, almost as if it's their own money.

Ramirez's wages, I would bet a week of, are absolutely not preventing us from signing anyone else! So let's chill about assuming we'd somehow be in a better position with him "off the books".

Well he is our top earner now Dani's gone isn't he? Not hard to imagine that we can make another 'big' signing once his wages are off the books, I bet our wage bill is fairly close to the limit of what we're 'allowed'.

Koeman said that the only way he would stay here was if we still sought to progress, so he would probably object to his team being sold under him. However, he often says that we have to know who we are, so I'm sure he would understand selling the odd player for high prices if the money was injected into the team. It's all a matter of balance and some players are more dispensable than others. I think Pelle's age would stop him reaching the stupid money that we'd want, but Mane may achieve that price :( and Wanyama may insist on going next summer.

No idea really. I just don't think we operate in a fashion of "you need to sell x before we can get y". I may of course be completely wrong and that's exactly how we work, but I don't see that in the club really.

That's fair enough, I see where you're coming from but surely getting your top earner off the wage bill is going to free up space for someone else. Espescially as he's only played 52 games in 3 1/2 years. We have to operate withing FFP and I just think if he was off the wage bill it could mean we could move for another big signing. Or as someone said above improve current players contracts to try and get more out of them? (Mane!!)

How come the "Big Bully Boy" clubs (or their buddies in the media) are still circling over SMS instead of picking on poor little Leicester City who are doing far better than us atm?

We just seem to be the only club worth sticking the boot into to try and destabilise our players and team

I don't think they see Leicester, for whatever reason, as a 'genuine' threat yet, although I'm quite sure there'll be some destabilisation with regard to Mahrez and Vardy at least to come. Like TSS, I do think there's an element where these clubs have no real intent to actually buy these players, but want to get in their head to mess things up a bit for upstarts like ourselves and Leicester - it's very sad to see.

Its a good point raised by Darklord. At the start of this season I said I was pleased Swansea were doing so well as they can have the spot light when the window opens, but seemingly that was a big enough kibosh to destabilise the whole club, so I'll keep those comments to myself in the future! <laugh>
But seriously, teams must be looking at Marez & Vardy, surely it would be easier to bully them over us........or at least test the water, right?

Leicester are loaded. They would be in the same position as us. We may have the advantage in wages ATM though due to being in the premier league for slightly longer

'Get one off books leaving room for another signing' presumes that we are happy to continue spending at the same rate. Maybe the club would just consider it gaining wiggle room rather than having money to spend. Remember we do have debts.

Depends on what you mean by spending at the same rate? As from what I can work out (admittedly off the top of my head) Our net spend for the past 2 Summers is a minus - aka we've made a profit. Certainly not like the first 2 Summers after promotion when we had quite a big net spend.

Apparently according to the Telegraph (cited in above blog), United are eager to get Pelle. Not convinced that he is a United-type player and absolutely no chance we would part with our main striker who plays in every game for us with only Shane Long and a still injured JRod as back up. Do these people even read what they write. I'd like Fonte for Christmas....doesn't mean I will get him.<doh>
Remember Fran - A Fonte is not just for Christmas. Don't you read car stickers?

As LTL said, Leicester are not seen as a threat. Take out Mahrez and Vardy and they are basically just a workmanlike team.
Add in the statistic that their team's average age is around 29, there's not much future in buying anyone other than their very best.
Saints, however, are seen as genuine contenders for a top 6/7 place, so attempts to disrupt and dismantle the team will continue, as our players , generally, are younger, many with their peak years still to come.

It would free up the money for roughly one Cuco Martina.

Also, we're still in zero danger from FFP. Monthly reminder that the wage bill as reported in the club's financials is different than the playing staff wage bill as used for FFP, and a good deal of our wage growth comes from a fairly dramatic increase in the club's employee base.
