I posted about that last year. It had come to me via a journalist. What was really interesting was that not long after I posted about it, said manager (who also had said player at a club with him then) had a young player who had got into the first team and started looking good. All of a sudden he was dropped and within 6 weeks shipped off to another team on loan. The player did an interview where he was quoted saying that he had been asked to sign a new contract but with a new agent. He refused and all of a sudden he was out of the team and then shipped on.

Well clearly he's being paid for his opinions, however pathetic they may be. Hence the professional reference. But I agree he comes across as a poor amateur. He gives professionalism a bad name, tbh.

On the one hand you have pundits like Steve Claridge, or Merson's SKY colleagues MLT and Charlie Nicolas, for example, who at the very least appear to have processed logical thought to their opinions. And then you have Merson himself who just seems to say the first thing which enters his head, shot through with bias, prejudice and closed minded cynicism. It's lucky he generally doesn't have much to say because I'm usually at my limit by the time he finishes.

I wish pundits were obliged to review their prediction after a game finishes, because he'd be utterly tongue-tied most of the time.

They were debating this on Radio 5 the other evening. China's clubs have been backed by government policy to get overseas players in, in order to draw attention and raise the status of their home leagues, and also to provide a substance behind their application to hold a World Cup competition. They are awash with money but low on home grown quality, hence the silly figures. China have also stated a goal to win the World Cup when it is held on home soil. They're going to have to improve some.

 

They will probably get some random South Americans or Africans to become Chinese.

 

Amazing how everyone seems to think Charlie chose to come here because no one else made an offer. If that were true, I'm sure his agent would have been pimping him around. Charlie wanted to come here...simple as that.

Well after only three days following the closure of the January transfer window, the media are back to trying to sell Victor to Spurs or Arsenal again following reported breakdown in new contract negotiations.....good effort!

 

Yeah, I think that's it for the winter. Let's try to concentrate on the football. Summer transfer thread can start end of April- mid May.
