That's the route, there was something peaceful biking along now deserted areas that was once a thriving hub of industry and yes I thought it was part of the Trans Pennine Route. Now this is all mainly closed off I go west instead and bike along Hessle Foreshore up to and past Ferriby parallel with the main railway line. It carries on even further than Ferriby but that is for another day.
The foreshore route has had some changes, but is to be kept open.
Surprisingly, it's never been part of thenTrans-Pennine Route. I asked and part of the reason was down to the ownership of the track that runs from Matalan to Hessle. It's part of a dispute going g back many years, and the cycling officer resigned because of it. He claimed ERYC got additional funding specifically for the cycle track along the foreshore, but spent it on other things totally unrelated to cycling or walking.
The route is designed by the national cycle body, sustrans. If you look, the route through Hull has to be about the most unattractive choices their could be. From Asda on Hessle Rd, it goes through back streets north of Hessle Rd, eventually appearing in Cambridge St. and then picking a way to the Hornsea track on Spyvee St, with a bit extra for those joining or leaving from the ferry.
They were not interested in changing it.
