Semi agree. If it were to happen it wouldn't be the fact he's gone in isolation that would concern me. It would be the fact that we are attempting to replace 4 or so first teamers for the 2nd Summer in a row. I have faith in the board and trust them completely (before anyone has a go or tells me to look at last season) but we can't do that every year, it's simply not sustainable. Not every transfer will work out (as we have learnt in the past).

Not sure I like the idea of giving you a "semi-agree"

I agree with a lot of that, but who would say out of last years signings didn't work out? From top of my head...

Bertrand - Success
Toby - Success
Pelle - Success (despite the questions over some aspects of his play, he scored 16 goals for us)
Tadic - Success - was out of form for half the season but think most are happy with him?
Long - Success
Mane - Success
Forster - Success

Can't think off the top of my head (not including Taider). I think it's highly unlikely we'll see that sort of success rate again in one window (with that many additions) Could be wrong of course but looking at it, we did well last year, really ****ing well. Could we do that every Summer?

I must state though that this is all hypothetical at the moment.

I didn't consider Tadic to be a success; after the first few games he was very average - I need to stress that I rate him and, sans injury, I hope he'll be excellent, but last season he was carrying an injury that made him a failure in my eyes. I'm hoping he won't turn into a Gaston and be always about to show his astounding form.
Elia and Duricic were definite no-nos.
Funnily enough, Taider impressed me more than any player I've seen in a Saints shirt in the preseason game he managed. Not a mistake and some sublime passing. However, he appears to have been a twot when it came to personality.

So, over all signings last year, I'd rate 6 successes, 4 failures. Even rating Tadic as neutral it's 6:3. So we do miss. It's bound to happen but it's controllable if the rest are as good as we regularly seem to manage.

And, yes, it's hypothetical until it's on the OS.

First of all, I had as as mid table anyway.

Secondly, we signed Toby at 11:55 on deadline day - you might be surprised at what can be done.

Do you really think Matt Phillips is the only player in the black box? Let's not panic yet, it's not happened and the club consider three of four people all the time. They even have replacements lined up for Ron.

I have faith in the black box. It's just been proven time and again from past windows that this is traditionally not the best time to get value for money from signings and teams don't want to lose good attacking players. As you said, it's not happended yet so fingers crossed nothing comes of it (or we've been working to bring in Payet and Markovic behind the scenes!)

<laugh> Well that made me laugh before I leave work <cheers>

Forgot about Elia & Djuricic and funny you say that about Taider because I remember watching the Leverkusen game and thinking "wow we've got a player here!" then a few days later he was off <laugh>

The point I'm making is we had an unusually high success rate last summer when it comes to transfers, can we always hit those percentages?

Fair enough, but I don't know when is a good time to get value for money really.

Let's hope it doesn't happen, but if it does let's take the shirts off all of their backs :)

Not really logical include loan deals into our success in transfers as they are relativity risk free. If they don't work out we don't purchase them, so it is completely different to actual players bought or sold. Elia and djuricic didn't work out, but have not affected the club aside from a year of wages.
