My main concern is that we have done this window on the cheap so far. Not sure why given the vast money being thrown to clubs in the premier league these days. Hopefully this will be rectified over the rest of august although talk of wanting only 1 more player is a concern - hopefully a bluff

Money doesn't mean success. Look at Osvaldo and Ramirez. Much rather we went for unknown players with potential, then big names that often come with a lot of baggage.

Not doubting his quality, but City spent 32m on Mangala last summer, and he is starting to look like a proper defender now - would be silly to let him leave.
If it is them loaning out Mangala then they will buy another cb. £32m for City is like me Spending £50p.

Would make even less sense though, wouldn't it? We've got a CB who we've spent a lot of money on (I know City have alot in the bank), and we want another one in as competition and cover, but we are going to let one, who is used to the league, leave on loan. Leaves them back where they started doesn't it?

Them buying Ottamendi outright for 30 odd million makes more sense to me.

Prehaps he is part of the deal? Or Valencia are doing like they did with Negredo, Loan now with a forced option to buy?

It's easy to get hung up on gaston and osvaldo but generally speaking you will get a better player in the 10-15m range than the 5-10m range. Of course we can pull out a great player for cheap sometimes. However so far this summer we have shopped at a level below the one I expected us to be capable of operating in

Gained less in sales, and we appear to be aiming to keep our net transfer spend fairly close to par.

Who's to say we haven't signed what will turn out to be great players in Cedric, Clasie, Romeu and even Caulker this year though? (Although I do take your point completely as well).

Agree, plus Osvaldo was a calculated risk. Poch and the club knew it could backfire, though I bet not quite as spectacularly! So really, only Gaston is a good old-fashioned 'not adjusted to the Premiership' flop. Forren almost doesn't count, as we picked up on his failings before he played a game.

I still personally think we're waiting to call at least one clubs' price bluff closer to deadline day. If we see one of our bigger targets get agitated closer to deadline, I wouldn't be surprised if we move. If that's not the case with any genuine targets, though, we won't.
