Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat insists the club’s fans can’t blame chairman Ellis Short for the side’s poor start to the season.
After last week’s 4-2 defeat at Leicester, they lost again on Saturday as they were beaten 3-1 by Norwich at the Stadium of Light.
Many home supporters raised their voices in a chorus of ‘Are you watching, Ellis Short?’ as they vented their frustration at a lack of significant spending on Wearside this summer.
Sunderland have still invested £15m in four new players so far but that’s a relatively modest sum compared to many of their Premier League rivals.
Dutchman Advocaat has been frustrated himself by a lack of movement on the transfer front since he committed to the club for one more season.
But he maintains Short is not the man to complain at about results and said: “With all respect, you cannot blame the president for this. Of course not.
“I have to blame myself, the players have to blame themselves and we have to find out if we can find a solution.”
Lens and M'Vila are qualityI think we'll have to disagree on that one Smithy

The manager changes have all been made at the right time - asking for Advocaat to be sacked would make most of us fans look like idiots though! He was our choice - Short's choice, Congerton's choice! Who do we blame if the fans turn on him and want him sacked? But isn't all the manager changes every season a sign of a club with no sense of direction?

I know mate not really what I'm getting at! But I don't know where we can go from here! Someone mentioned on another thread, Bruce, MON, Di Canio, Poyet and now Advocaat - 6 players that have played for the last 4 of them are JOS, Catts, Brown, Larsson, Johnson, Fletcher. Only the last 2 didn;t play for Bruce as well. Whatever these issues are, we are all paying for them. Not the players, not the managers, us fans who LOVE this club and can;t stop loving the club. When Bruce was there I used to lose sleep because of it! Lie awake on a night thinking how it should be much better! Same with just about every season except the Poyet cup final one! I thoroughly enjoyed that season - best we've had for a long time IMO.I'm not ready to call for him to be sacked after just 2 games Marcus. My earlier comment was about a club being in crisis, not over these first 2 games but for a much longer period of time. To me, the club is lacking direction. There doesn't seem to be a 3yr plan, a 5yr plan, etc, etc. We stumble on from 1 crisis to the next, sacking managers every season as if that will solve all of the clubs problems, whatever they may be.
Both PDC and Poyet have alluded to "problems" at the club once they've left.
I don't believe sacking Old Eggnog will solve anything at the minute. Thats not to say he won't walk if he doesn't get his way in the next couple of weeks.
At the back of my mind I keep wondering how things would have been if Big Sam had come here in the summer. I wonder how he would have dealt with the old guard at the club, if they are indeed one of the significant problems in the first team.
A pointless waste of a few seconds of brain-time maybe. But those thoughts keep turning up.
