If both are available for around the 10-15m mark then why not get both? It's not like we have a load of centre backs with Gardos' injury, if we were to get 2 in then we could possibly loan McCarthy out for regular game time and have Fonte/Yoshida/VVD/Koulibaly as our 4, which would be pretty great.

Still if Koulibaly and VVD turn out as good as the hype suggests then it still makes sense to get both if the opportunity is there as Fonte isn't going to be around for ever, and no doubt we could do the usual with showcasing them in the PL and selling them on for a higher fee in a couple of years anyway.
