I'm going on the season before they joined us, and the London connection, and I don't think thats a bad comparison at all. Gray has scored most of his goals at a lower level apart from 1 decent season in the Championship so for me he might maintain that form for us, and he might not. Luer and Aluko scored tonight, Jelly is still here and we have Akpom and Jahraldo Martin, if we don't get this Gray then it won't be the end of the world.
Aluko didn't score, Akpom did. Gray is a young striker who has improved every season he has played, at progressively higher levels.
Brucey said nobody in or out at the moment, Gray deal has reached a stalemate. Maloney likewise. I did notice Burnsey said "the fans are starting to get impatient", good journalism, likely to provoke a response.
Gray probably is decent, who knows till he gets here though and its probably not the worst thing ever if we don't find out, that's the point I'm making. Hull City has a proud tradition of signing prolific strikers that turned out to be anything but once they got here, at least we know Jelly can score for us Aluko can score for us in the Championship, Luer looks like he will step up, and Akpom scored on his debut.
The Brendford forum has us out of the race for Gray and Burnley in based on them changing the title of their thread.
Akpom has 2 in 2, so let's see how he goes before declaring the club a graveyard for strikers. Jelavic and N'Doye had great strike rates in the PL too, and as you say Aluko was good for us in the C'ship.
We are at a stalemate over 500,000? That just doesn't seem like such a large amount we should let a deal fall through.
Exactly. When we're spending that sort of money, another £500k is neither here nor there. We either want him or not. If we do, then for gods sake just do it!
A bit unfair to heap pressure on the club when we don't know what Brentford are demanding. After Gray's goal on the weekend they could be demanding more money, so even if we've improved our offer they might be holding out, and there does have to be a tipping point where we stop.
I cannot believe that this deal is being hung up over 500k. Gray apparently was ready to come here which presumably meant we had reached an agreement on his wages. With Jelavic either going or playing on dodgy knees, and Hernandez on his way, even with Akpom scoring goals and Luer looking promising, we desperately need a fast striker who can put the ball in the net. Gray is the obvious choice...and we are haggling over 500k.?????? NO WAY.!!! There is far more to this than meets the eye. If this falls through and he goes to Burnley someone will have something to answer for IMO. At least this time it wont be another screw up by our "medical advisors" (whoever they are?). We've already had three costly debacles (Bullard, Austin, Diame) in recent years.
Bruce says the deal had stalled but there are always games going on with managers and what is said to the press. With both us and Brentford playing in the cup, I doubt much business was going on today. As ever...TWT
Burnley really aren't in for him. He's either going to us or staying with Brentford, or a third option which hasn't materialised yet, but it won't be Burnley.
They aren't going to bid 9m for a player. I'm happy to eat these words if they do, but they really won't.
It's a bad comparison, as Jay Simpson managed a bare 1in3 in just one of his seasons, but take a look at the consistency of Gray as he progresses. You keep saying he might not for us, but can't you say that for everyone? No one, except you, has mentioned anything about not getting him being the end of the world, although quite a few, me included, have said it would now be bloody stupid and it would. Get the bugger in!
Too true. When a deal is dead Bruce comes out and says it's dead; this deal is not dead; nor is Maloney's, although it is very shaky as their window has closed (I think).
