I never said you did, I simply asked you a question; but who was it came up with this notion you speak of, as it wasn't me - I just believe in winning. As Derby found out, it is not so much about winning it early as losing it later - but I'll let you play with that one.
Which I think was kind of my point. Sides like Derby and Blackpool may well have started previous seasons quite well, but they never achieved promotion. I'm not sure what your question means though. I was responding to the moan that if we don't get Gray sorted before this weekend then our season is basically ****ed.
This post @Fez. This was the one I was disagreeing with. I don't think these early games will be the difference.
If you finish 7th, 3 points behind 6th and you didn't pick up a win in August, you'd surely have to blame your start to the season on coming up short. I'm saying don't let us being late on signings allow this to happen. I'm not saying win every game in August and be champions.
Of course not, because that presumes you go undefeated after August and have no other games where you dropped points preventing you from getting 6th. A very naive point of view to be honest.
It's not naive, it's simply looking at what might be. Not having a player on board is more or less the same as having an injured player in your squad; it should be avoided if possible. To be just short of points in May when none are won in August would be a notable statistic and having no sought after striker would be a fairly considered cause. There does not need to be any presumption of going undefeated after August (which is a stupid statement), as no one has said it would be the sole cause, simply a major one - not to see that would be very naive to be honest. One of my overriding concerns about Palacios is that, should it drag on into the season, he is yet another player unavailable to Bruce; we already have Diame and Snodgrass from last season which is far from great, add Palacios, Gray and Odobajo to the non-availability and we have a self-inflicted crisis in the making. We saw what squad depletion did to us last year. Either you simply want to argue, or you don't understand why a team has a squad of players.
Sorry for wishing to discuss things on a discussion board. If you don't like it you don't have to respond to me. Panicking about not having players through the door before the season starts based on the misguided belief that we won't be able to finish top 6 as a result is stupid. It's like criticising the keeper who concedes the penalty at the beginning of a game in a 1-0 loss, but ignoring the striker who misses the open goal twice in the last ten minutes. Yes, if the keeper had saved the penalty, the team wouldn't have lost, but at the same time, if the striker had finished his chances, the team also wouldn't have lost. Panicking and criticising the keeper after he concedes is pointless if you aren't going to take into account all the other factors at play.
You tend not to discuss, you simply criticise, but here you go again telling folk they are either naive or stupid when all evidence points to it being you. Not interested in your analogy as it serves no purpose, but let's refer back to your earlier comment: Without going through the process of analysing their results, do you really not see that if a team has a decent middle and end to their season then a poor start can be the cause of failing to achieve their set target? I haven't seen anyone panicking, as you put it, simply folk discussing (until you piped up) possible consequences; as you seem to squeal when you claim (falsely) that your rights to discuss are being attacked, you just might allow some consideration to others.
Anyway, onto a separate question: do you have a news feed we do not? It can't be Sky because we have that and you've already called their report bollocks; we have local too, so where have you got the info to make this stark statement? Or are you just reading what has been on here while you slept and then stated it as some well informed fact; the 'apparently' seems to indicate your source is not totally sure, or you aren't totally sure of your source. Starting to think Quill is right about you, there is a whiff of bullshit starting to drift through.
I do allow consideration to others, in fact I'm happy to discuss this as there's no right or wrong. I think it's naive to think that not signing a player by the first game will cost us the play offs, but that's my view. Others are entitled to theirs. The analogy serves a purpose, but you're choosing to ignore it. As I said, if you go undefeated after the window closes and still miss out on the Top 6, absolutely blame the losses before the window closed. Otherwise no loss is more or less the cause of your poor form. Getting players in early in the window is a great thing to do, absolutely, and I was critical of how late we left it to start signing players. But if there are losses or draws before/if/when Gray comes in, delaying bringing him in will not decide our season.
Twitter. Might want to look at my use of the word 'apparently'. I'm not stating anything as fact, just what I've read.
OLM posts things far more 'factually' than me in the General Transfers Thread but if I question his sources I'm out of order.
Twitters fine best to say it's from Twitter so people know it's probably nonsense, same thing with facebook or like my occasional info from one of my chickens. Some info from Twitter can be good, like agents, girlfriends/wives of players etc. Edit: or post a link like you just did after I hit reply
Haha yeah figured it was easier just to post. I thought my use of 'apparently' would be enough to suggest I'd heard it somewhere, but clearly not good enough for some.
Well to be fair we all have to acknowledge the trash info that comes from Twitter. When I think aparantly I think you heard from a friend who heard, or a taxi driver, another forum, a jurno friend like sterlings etc. Always good to give your source if you can that way no one questions your info in the future.
