Well done HCOSC and James Mooney. Hope there is some form of public recognition at the KC on Saturday. If not I will make sure there is an orange by his gravesite.

You know something - I bet neither of them would have objected to a joint recognition. They probably would have voted for it. Omar Sharif & Tom Courtney were watching City together when Ian McKechnie was part of that wonderful '60s team.
I'm sure they'd met each other.

I can't see any reason why they don't do that.

Club To Remember McKechnie & Sharif Ahead Of Season Opener

The Club will be marking the passing of former goalkeeper Ian McKechnie and long-time supporter Omar Sharif at Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield Town.

McKechnie was a firm favourite with supporters during his playing days with the Tigers, making 284 appearances between 1966 and 1974, a period which often saw fans lovingly launch oranges in his direction after the stopper was found to be partial to the fruit. He sadly passed away in June at the age of 73. His family, including wife Avril, will be joining us at the KC this weekend.

Meanwhile, celebrated actor Omar Sharif had been a supporter of the Tigers since being introduced to the club by acting colleague Sir Tom Courtenay in the 1960s. The Lawrence of Arabia star would often call the club when filming away on location to find out the latest score and full time result. He also passed away in June, at the age of 83.

We ask all supporters to join us in a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off on Saturday.

I think that the club has simply waited until things were in place before announcing the minutes silence for both.

They could and should have announced a minutes silence immediatley, other things could have been added later.

You think the family would have objected to a minutes silence being announced way back in June. I understand the need for negotiations for the other stuff.

Somehow I do not believe that this is worthy of debate.

According to Wiggo last night, Ian McKechnie didn't even like oranges. <laugh>

He did think the throwing of them onto the pitch was funny though.

But he was less keen on pineapples.

How and which Hull City legends being remembered on their passing is certainly worthy of a debate. I agree that now is not the time, I will get back to this next week.

This is true, Grapefruits were his thing.
The thinking was they had something in them that broke down fat in the body, he ate one every morning when I was a lad.
Funny thing is, he covered them in sugar because they were to bitter for him.
I remember it well. He'd cut it in half, run the knife around the edge, then threw the segments to separate them. He had a special knife for the job LOL...
Then he'd put a tablespoon of sugar on it, I'd look on eagerly as the sugar melted and if I was lucky I'd get a piece.
How this was a dietary aid I'll never know but it did taste nice and I still enjoy them this way today :-D

Just as well this wasn't common knowledge or he may have been pelted with them instead.
