Missed this bit but the tournament winnings are roughly the same as what you get for winning the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Nothing against Maloney but is he really DP quality? NYCFC have Pirlo and Chicago have Maloney. There's no wonder people aren't bothered in Chicago, I wouldn't be either
Brentford would argue of the £10m, £7m meets gray's valuation but £3m falls short of Odubajo's valuation.
Brucey wants a striker, that much is obvious. He came out today and said how impressed he was with Lenihan, plus we've got Taylor and Elmo that can play there. If we get both, then great, but Odubajo is a great talent and it'd be a shame if we lost out because we fannied around trying to sign Gray. For the money offered for Gray, we could have Afobe, Wells or even a large chunk of Rhodes.
Right, so now we're talking about buying a player from the MLS, the stature of a cup competition in compassion to a cup competition from a nation where we definitely aren't buying a player from is all of a sudden totally relevant and interesting?
We're going round in circles now though, either we've met Gray's and not met Odubajo's, or vice versa, but not both.
Even with Rosey & Chester leaving and Elmo better utilized higher up the park ( "perceived' defensive weaknesses ) ?
Maloney is probably DP quality from 3 years ago, he isn't DP quality in my mind anymore. He is probably just a top player as opposed to a star. Your DP in theory is a star that you can only afford if his salary can't fit into the salary cap. Maloneys salary can fit into the salary cap so he shouldn't be a DP player. Getting to far into other teams or Chicago should probably be left to the MLS thread if you want to post in it. But yea Maloney could probably do a job for us, but he isn't the level of player that the DP is supposed to be.
I thought that's what Lenihan was signed for. I felt that a Koren type midfielder was what we needed after strikers. Maybe Maloney is that player for us.
Dumb question perhaps, but can Maloney get out of his contract by asking for a transfer at this time of the MLS season ?
I don't think the MLS has a formal transfer request system like in Europe and I can't find it on google. I'm sure he can tell them he wants to leave but I don't think he can force their hand on it. They can sell him to us after their window closes on Thursday as it's our window that matters when selling a player outside of their league.
Embarrassing that the 'unnamed PL club' that bid was a fib from Brentford. They're getting found out as desperate. We definitely have the upper hand now.
Don't think we need to worry about that, for now at least, if any PL club seriously wanted him at present, they'd have matched our bid already. But, we all know how fast things can change in football.
Exactly my point. If there was a PL club that was going to come in for him, they would have done so by now, so Brentford resorting to fabricating a story just reeks of desperation.
Is it a porkey really ?. Didn't spot that. Fans influencing the outcome of management...pipe dreaming.
