Id say he probably isnt that good in the air as he is only 5ft 10. I dont see to many headers from these video. From these videos he looks like he is going to be a hell of a striker.

    Here is another vid.

I imagine (injury permitting) Gray's stats wl be considerably better next season regardless of which team he plays for. I hope it's ours then we can start on getting another striker in too.

Someone put a snip of goals up that he'd scored. Seems to have everything about him. Good in the air, tap ins, headers, delicate chips - plus he seems quick, which Rhodes isn't. I think he'd be a great addition. I just hope we don't do what we manage to do with most strikers - turn them into 1 in 10 strikers.

haha im not saying he isnt good, its just watching the videos he appears to play off a much larger striker. He hardly ever scores with his head and almost all his goals are out of the six yard box and low strikes into the corners. He looks like he hits his spots extremely well with quite a bit of power, but im not seeing someone who looks like he is a great header. When his teammates run on the wings he looks to pull up and provide an option just out of the six yard box rather than crash in and try to score with his head. That says to me he is more comfortable with his feet.

You look at the vids. I don't know what the average number of headed goals would be for every 10 goals scored. But he certainly scores some. More interesting to me is he can score with his left and his right foot. I think he'd be spot on and I hope we do sign him.

Ken Wagstaff was 5'10". He told me he scored less than 10 goals with his head in his professional career. He was teased about it.
Check out TigerRoo's signature for the picture on Waggy's biography...looks like that was one of the 10 ?

PS: He partnered Chris Chilton, tha'knows, one of the best headers of the ball the game ever saw. It was telepathy between them.

8m for a young promising striker is fine I think, in this day and age. 7m for Jelavic and Long made more sense as they are older and had less potential to improve, but were PL scorers - not so much in Long's case. Gray is younger and can still get better.

It's not fine but it's the accepted norm because Fulham ****ed up the market by signing McCormack for the fee they paid.

Austin went to QPR for 6m didn't he? And that was after a failed medical with us.

Yeah, but McCormack's fee was just outrageous. Austin had a better goal-to-game ration at Burnley than Ross did at Leeds and he's younger. £6 million was a bit expensive for Austin at the time but nowhere near as overpriced as McCormack's move. Austin was going to the Prem as well whilst McCormack was staying in the Championship, hence why Rhodes commands such a huge fee.

6m for Austin was before the McCormack deal, and we're looking at around that or a bit more for a player who is younger than Austin was, with a lot more upside, who is coming off 18 goals in his first Championship season. I don't think it's outrageous or a distorted fee.

Austin wasn't going to the Prem, QPR had just been relegated.

Rhodes Huddersfield to Blackburn - it's just what goal scorers cost. At least this will be money better spent than on that waste of space Hernandez - though they do both have an equally **** tattoo collection.

I think he is going to score a lot next season. He has that look of someone who is about to put up big numbers.

So he did. Still, in hindsight I'd say Austin's move to QPR was about £2 million too expensive for the time and Ross McCormack's should have been half of his transfer fee at least.

Oh was it? Fair enough then. I'd still say that when you price in the expected improvement from Gray it's not a ridiculous fee to demand.

I agree - he certainly looks hungry. His career to date is on an upward trajectory. My only concern is if QPR come in, game over. He'll stay in London no doubt. They'll be after a striker if/when Austin moves on.

It's not ridiculous in the current market, especially for English players. Bournemouth shelled out £8 million for Mings, for example.

But that's more a good example of PL money over-inflating everything. Fees between two Championship clubs are generally going to be more subdued.
