6m for me is a poor deal if true we must value him higher than that surely , it's coming back to bite us on the arse letting all these players get down to there last year of contract
A back 3 of Dawson/McGuire/Davies with Bruce as back-up or a back 4 of Taylor/DawsonDavies/Robertson should still be good enough for the championship. Chester was always going and with only 1 year left on his conbtract, was going to be at a bargain proice too.
End of the day if hes contract is up we need rid, because he won't sign a new one, as well as his wage been halved. We have no idea what the release fee is if its 6 million then so be it. Hes obviously a quality player, and his ability to read the game was excellent. The trademark of his block tackle then coming away with the ball is something I will miss. I will not let anyone tell me hes good on the ball though, his passing is blinkered and he gives the ball away cheapley far too often. Also if you scouted Chester at the end of last season without seing him prior 6 million is overpriced. In the last 5-6 games he was easily our worst centre half. I think the biggest travesty of all this is releasing McShane.
So not official then. FFS I'll wait until I hear it from tickler or big vern before I comment on the size of alleged the fee. TWT
We can all abuse Nigel Pearson but without his signings we'd be struggling financially to recoup this sort of cash.
Chester is a quality centre-half.....we're going to need Davies to get back on his game now or else we'll end up with the slowest centre half partnership since Nicky Mohan and Tony Brien strode the earth. Not sure how much of this firesale cash that Bruce is going to see, but even if he had all of it I'm not exactly full of confidence he would reinvest it wisely. The next couple of weeks should be interesting...anyone still think we're going to win the League by Easter?
With this dosh that has come in, Brucey needs to go after an Andre Gray or (dare I say it) Jordan Rhodes. Of course, we need to get rid of at least 2 of the 3 strikers for that.
I can swallow 8m but not 6. As I said a few pages ago, James Chester is the real deal. If he goes he should go with all of our best wishes. Gutted for him that west brom is the destination though. Not likely to go down but still a possibility. I think he's better than them.
