It was pretty unclear what plan Rodgers had going into last season. Sturridge got injured, he wanted Bony, he went all out for Lallana (who also had injury trouble straight away). He also wanted Coutinho in CM but it did not work.

Did we ever actually ever see Rodgers big plan?

Surely he had all of Sturridge, Bony, Lallana, Coutinho and Sterling in his mind for the starting 11.Along with Henderson and Gerrard.

Our interest in Bony was January 2014!

rodgers has a huge squad that has no excuses... ok CM might be one player shy of where you'd want but he's a tonne of players

When you beat the lower half home and away as mourinho says you get 20 x 3 = 60 points... LFc have good enough players in all positions to get a good haul of points and try and be solid against the top 4.... do that and 5th and 6th is easy. any lower = abject failure.

That's what I mean Mito. Do you think if we found another w/c player like Suarez now (a 20+ foreigner gamble that worked) that our entire team would be in much more of a position to challenge immediately than 3 years ago when BR came in? I do.

Why is that? Is it because he created a squad of 20+ players that wanted to come rather than chasing and pinning hopes on 30-40+ players that didn't?

I mean seriously do people think BR sits refusing Sanchez and Hazard in favour of Lallana and Balotelli????

And yes he's got to spend all this money and assemble his squad that should be challenging for fourth. If city or United pip us to 4th its because they have the w/c players who joined and stayed. If we are behind Southampton or Spurs it's BRs fault as he's had the financial power to outchoose these two clubs in assembling a squad...

We were linked with Bony all through last summer before Balotelli came in.

Can't recall much being said about Bony in the summer. Last summer was Sanchez before he joined Arsenal and then it was Balotelli or Eto'o before Benteke was briefly mentioned.

I don't know about the paper talk but on the forum you guys had definitely discussed Bony. Half weren't happy as he was from a mid table club and he's a powerful player which was not what you wanted after Suarez.

Well obviously. He'd been linked in the previous window so was always going to be discussed on forums.

He definitely wanted Bony - he was his first choice, but then Sanchez came available, we failed, then went back to Bony but unfortunately City were in for him and we couldn't compete.

He wants a target man - always has done.

I am judging the player - he doesn't improve us one bit, other than add a bit of squad depth. He's done very little to justify any price.

He's a squad player. <ok>

Scored more goals than anyone else in our side last year that's still at the club

a) In a team that scored 50 league goals, that's not a great achievement.

b) His overall gameplay was awful.

c) Measuring just goals is a poor stat - HEnderson has more goals and assists than Iniesta but he's clearly no way near as good.

Right - going back to Lallana,

Yes, he's our player and his fee is now a sunk cost. I think he's a good squad player to have - is he good enough to start most games? Personally no, but I think he can make a good contribution. Would I be upset if I saw his name in the starting line up? No, but not at the expense of Firmino or Coutinho (ignoring suspensions, injuries, rest).

Hopefully he can stay injury free

I like Lallana but he is what I'd categorise as a luxury player. As someone said earlier, I wouldn't be disappointed to see him in the starting 11 but realistically at the expense of who? Ibe? No. Coutinho? No.

Great squad player.

No its not. If you have no strength and just average pace you get blown off it time and again. Each and every time this guy has played a better side he's vanished. The only exception was city where they gave total freedom of the park to all our players.

In the end he is what he is. Play him against lower sides who give up space and he will do something. When the level steps up his cruyff turn is no good to him.

I have no pace and very, very below average strength. Any chance of blown off "time and again"?

Just asking.
