To be fair to the Albion, if we were in the Prem and had to pay £25m for two players of a relegated side, I'd balk at that price also. Pity Redknapp didn't think that when he splashed out £8m on Caulker
Sorry Swords, Redknapp had nothing to do with signing Caulker (or anyone else for that matter). This was all the fault of Beard, who imposed evry signing on him! As I have said previously, if Phillips had been part of a relegated side from the German top division (can't spell it correctly!), they would be lucky to get £3 million for him. Why then, do we value him at £10 million? EVERY player is only worth what another club is prepared to pay for them!
Do you not think the selling club is actually the decision maker in what a player is worth? If Les and Ramsey decide that Phillips is worth £10m because that price includes disruption to the team, a player who is settled and would contribute is leaving and the team is disturbed as they seek a replacement and then they gamble on the time it takes to settle (if they settle at all). Therefore If a buying club is only willing to pay £7m but the selling club wants £10m then ultimately that player is worth £10m or you don’t get him. Cant see any other logic other than seller sets the price. If you set the price too high for a buyer you might fail to sell but then the question is are you happy that you didn’t sell because that price wasn’t met. If the answer is yes, then that player is worth £10m to the seller

As a stockbroker (do the best of my recollection) I would have thought you knew very well that the seller does not set the price in isolation. Phillips is not worth £10m.
House analogy would instead need to be considered from the point of view that it wasn't up for sale. If someone decided to buy my flat and offered market price i'd tell them to do one because it's not up for sale. To entice me to sell the price would have to be increased to a level where I was willing to sell. If I was at a stage where I wanted to move house and put it up for sale then I would accept the market price. I agree with you to a certain point, but that can only apply if the seller states & means "it's X amount or no sale." If you want to sell you must take into account the buyer's valuation. I don't belive that we would make such a stipulation on any sale. Like any other transaction, the price has to be agreeable to both parties. You must also take into account how a player would perform for you if you stopped his wanted transfer. In the case of Phillips (not stating that he wouldn't perform if he stays), a transfer would probably keep him in The Premier, increase his salary AND provide him with a nice little signing on bonus. If he's really lucky, the selling club would also pay him a bonus for the profit made on his trade & a reward for "loyalty"!

When he does go (and he will - soon) he wants to be up to speed and ready to play. If he doesn't go (which is very unlikely IMO) then he will just carry on and won't have upset anyone at QPR by being a d!ck and sitting out training/friendlies whilst waiting to be whisked back up the the Premier league. That is the right attitude to take, just like Charlie.
Spot on. I would really like to keep him but we do have some decent midfield talent now (including Chery), though I'm not sure if any of them would be as good out wide as Phillips. In comparison to Charlie, he has longer remaining on his contract and he would generate less cash if we did sell him so, arguably, keeping him might be affordable.
OMG. Things must be really quiet out there if we're having debates about the mechanics of who sets the price in a sale and how that corresponds to value. The important thing is we still we have not sold any of them.
