Very disappointing if we're willing to pay his release clause... surely there's someone else available for that price?

Apparently Rodgers has wanted him for two seasons...after Lovren, Lallana, Lambert, Allen... he can't afford (noone can afford) another mistake.

Lambert, £4m, came in as 4th choice striker butr got pushed into a bigger role. Give Lallana a chance with out injuries. Allen is very useful.

I actually think Benteke would suit a Klopp team (4-3-3 with a focal point), so thats good once Rodgers is sacked.

Let's be clear. Some of the very best sides have lumps up top and some of the most sought after have been big strikers.

Look at bayern... now lewandowski has some special attributes but he is not small and replaced gomez and manwhazzit who were lumps. They won Treble as the rest played round it. If Firmino and coutinho and milner and henderson can play round benteke based on rodgers tactics great. If not first thing that changes is.... Rodgers.

Now chelsea... Drogba was a big power player, and a lot more. Costa is a big thug not mobile at all.. yet everyone seems to love the idea Rodgers wanted him

What about giroud at arsenal. He's a box player and a good finisher but he's not all that outside the box. Very effective with arsenal's ams.

Why the f do we think we can't get a guy to work if strategically we've gone for him and all the other players signed

    0.27. 52 goals in 136 games.

He scored 31 in 57 for Newcastle. Injuries ruined him after that.

Since the end of the season and the 'review' I get the feeling that Rodgers knows he's on borrowed time. I expect him to throw caution to the wind in the league as he knows that the fixtures are extremely difficult and that its likely he'll be replaced by December anyway.

Not thinking about the players - agree on Allen and Lallana. More that we definitely overpaid by on both by maybe 30-40% to get exactly who Rodgers wanted.

And frankly Lambert at any price was a waste of money.

    Could be.

    Just don't know.

The hiring of 3 guys to seniors don't seem to me to be Un fireable at all. But then again he was given them.

The signings for me look to be all committe agreed and all very much not tied to one Rodgers style.

Further benteke, Clyne and milner and to some extent Ings and firmino all all athletism and legs to the side.

It will be interesting for me to see what happens as I feel strongly in a 433 this set of players barring lb and perhaps DM if can doesn't settle there is very adequately competitive

Could be really important whether Clyne sinks or swims... could add a lot of solidity or start our circus defending all over again. Defence sets the limits of the team really...

Bit of form and confidence and Ings, Benteke etc will be fine... but if we ship 3 in a Lovren masterclass opening day... whole team takes a step back.

Yes I agree confidence, teamwork and giving the extra yards in tracking and supporting each other is where it is at.

Stop bashing lovern though.... he is only 25 and has had his sighted. Give him a chance... bash him if he's as bad this season.

Because some on here are convinced he doesn't fit your style, a style that you played for 6 months when Suarez was there.

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, 24, will not play in Friday's friendly against Sporting Braga in Portugal with his £32.5m move to Liverpool set to be completed. (Daily Mirror)
Villa boss Tim Sherwood will target Tottenham striker Emanuel Adebayor, 31, to replace Benteke. (Birmingham Mail)
Should Benteke join Liverpool, it would free up striker Rickie Lambert, 33, to leave Anfield for West Brom. (Daily Mirror)

What.... to show off how he should be retired so nobody will buy him?

Enrique, borini and balotelli were left at home.
