The thing is that we cannot even flog balotelli on loan. Nor could we give him away on a free. Other clubs will be too scared to have their team spirit or cohesion destroyed.

I can imagine the celebrations in his Italian club when Rodgers paid £16MILLION for him. That alone should have got Rodgers the sack. His presence at the club must constantly remind everyone of Rodgers genius.

To be fair I suspect Rodgers wanted him signed about as much as we did

I honestly thing that £15m on Berahino, should we be able to get him at that price, would be money better spent. I think we're overawed by Benteke's continuing bullying of Skrtel when he plays us - well **** that, Giroud does the same and we would pay @ £30m for him. Don't get me wrong, Benteke is a useful player, but the situation is reminiscent of Carroll in that had we got Andy for @ £20m it would have been a decent gamble. I didn't want Balotelli, but £16m wasn't the end of the world (though why we didn't spend that money/gamble on Shaqiri instead is ****ing beyond me). £32 is preposterous, though I don't blame Villa for asking for it, or suggesting that if he really wants a move he should put in a transfer request

Carl is right. In fairness to balotelli he has not yet punched anyone or set anyone on fire but he has time.

It's a sacking offence to have bought him and 16 Mil, with respect, is not the gamble it was a gamble with our clubs season that is the issue.

It backfired and we were awful. It could have been worse ralky or a mid season rally.

I agree the fee is too much. I agree villa are in their rights to demand it. But in the end lfc need a reliable front man... is benteke that?

If the rumours that the mancs may be interested are correct then that will push up the price. The likelihood is that Villa will stick to their trigger price of £32.5m. But then the rumours could just be a ploy to make Rodgers think he has a great player.

If he stays fit you will have a fantastic player on your hands...he has score 48 goals in a very poor Villa team in an injury hit 3 yr period and has scored against decent teams if I remember correctly

Plus signing him would reduce our goals conceded column too :)

Was that bit supposed to be, "would we pay @£30m"?

That's an interesting question. He's a 20+ goals a season striker who brings a lot to the team on top of his goals. What's the going rate for that these days? With the increasing revenues in the game i don't think £30m for Giroud is that far fetched.

Edit: reading it back I think you were actually making the point I just did lol my bad!
Edit 2: or maybe not.... I can't figure it out!

I think Giroud is massively under rated for you guys. He does what he's paid to do, the only problem is you don't have someone to share the burden so he gets burnt out by new year

Yeah being able to rest him and keep him fit and firing all season seems to be a problem for us. He's a top player but he has to do it all season as Welbeck isn't lethal enough and Walcott doesn't offer as much as a CF/target man.

We have been linked to every striker under the sun but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign one.

Giroud is very underrated, could be wrong doesn't he go missing in the "bigger" games?

That was a criticism aimed at him at times during his first couple of seasons with us, but last season he scored a couple against City, a couple against Liverpool, goals against spurs and Utd too. Chelsea and there bus was the only top opposition he didn't score against last season if I remember rightly.

He seems to have really stepped up in the big games.

Edit: though the less said about his performance agains Monacco in the CL the better <laugh>

So Liverpool have triggered the buyout clause <doh>

Does Brendan have a buyout clause ? We could set up a crowd funding page
