Rodgers will have nowhere to hide and no possible excuses (although he will try) if that recruitment does not come off. There is no doubt that CB is overpriced. Is he the best player bought and sold in the summer? We have now got benteke as striker but why keep Balotelli and Co?
all good points. We've a team which should get 5th and should be "close" to 4th IMO. we got to two semi finals last year. if the draw is favorable.. ie no away tie to a top 4 side... i would expect us to have good cup runs I think city are the worst of the top 4 now. they have steam rollered the prem in the past... it will be interesting to see how we kick off. 1. defensively have we resolved anything? only time will tell if any coaching has helps from set piece 2. attacking wise have we added goals? for me it 100% looks as if we have 3. have we added any toughness? milner might be mentally tougher.. benteke is a unit up top... but after that... have we added any real mental toughness.
Good point about physicality and toughness. Physically - we need to play Sakho, Milner, Can, Henderson and Benteke to form form a spine which will not be physically bullied. the mental toughness is an interesting one - Can and Sakho definitely have this. The way they step up to the challenge and take on responsibility. Henderson tries to but his lack of quality lets him down, and he tends to bottle big occasions. Milner should have it. Coutinho has the toughness and Firmino certainly does - I'm sure fans will be incredibly impressed with his workrate - he will be chasing down none-stop.
I'm looking forward to seeing Benteke. We've got someone that can physically hold the ball up top again.
Trying too hard not to be pro Liverpool I think. I'm with MITO in that we actually have a squad to choose from right now with real depth (although DM could be an issue) and I'm personally quite excited.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes new signing Christian Benteke can be a huge player for the club after the striker earlier this week. "There's a number of qualities that he has and he will only improve in his time at the club," said Rodgers. "If you look at his goals record since the time that he's been in the Premier League he's up there with the best in terms of numbers. So that was very important for us. "Obviously I've heard and I've seen stuff about the style, 'he won't fit the style of how we play' - I think he'll only complement it and help us. He's a big guy but he's got the attributes that I like in terms of pace and movement and he gets goals. "He's great in the air, strong, he can hold the game up, he can play on the counter-attack, he can play whenever the team is deep because he can hold the ball up with his physical strength."
