    This is surely a coup for Newcastle. I'm surprised that no stronger teams than Newcastle went for this player, maybe there some doubt about him.

    I'm quite impressed by some signings other teams made so far.

    The plot thickens.

    At this point, it might almost be better if Man U hadn't gotten Schweinsteiger, because I think they would have bid 25m for Schneiderlin and then he'd be off and Saints could move forward.

    OTOH, it's kind of hard not to cling to the hope that Schneiderlin stays because that would be awesome.

    I don't see why Schneiderlin wouldn't be in our Audi Quattro cup squad unless negotiations with United are nearing to a conclusion.

    10k bigger crowds, 150m > 79m transfers over last PL 5 years (Saints being PL for 3 of those). Ability to command substantially higher transfer fees and profits. Youth set up hugely in advance of the Swans

    I'd augue we are way ahead in terms of youth system but very close otherwise - most of the high fees we've been getting are for ex youth players! They've had an Europa season and, similarly to us, seem to buy well, have made a string of good managerial appointments and, I think most importantly, have a knack of making previously average players look great ( I think saints and Swansea ar the best in UK for this) - Shelvey, Routledge, Dyer, Michu, De Guzman etc

    I can see why players looking to improve would love to go to either but feel we have the slight edge atm.

    Fair enough!! Don't think the youth set up affects a players decisions, but the crowds and spending is relevant. I am not sure he ability to command higher transfer fees is relevant to a player jointing either, plus Bony was 30m.

    Overall, though it may not be as close as I thought. :emoticon-0148-yes:

    The Sun (I know!) reporting that Calum Chambers rejected a loan move back here for the season. That may be just a journo doing 2+2, but I'd take that if available. Leave more funds for other positions and we can take a year to look for another RB.

    We already have 2 rbs plus mugabi and I certainly wouldn't want chambers as our starting centre back. This is a nonsense Sun story I reckon .
