Because Sterling plays for Liverpool TLF, who's 'old boy network' has wedged itself into the football media and now dominate it.
If we had a choice between Sturridge and Sterling who would we sign, The choice would be a close but I suggest our shirt would suit Sterling more as Sturridge would spend half the season injured. Liverpool offered Sturridge his contract when Suarez was still playing ans when Sturridge was on the physio bench recovering from a medium term injury. If you had a choice between them who would you put our shirt on?
From a distance its easy to point fingers at Sterling but when you look close up, you realise that the very injury prone Sturridge is allegedly on £120kpw and he is earning most of his money from the physios bench. So, in fairness, you can expect Sterling to want parity at least.
The club offered Sterling a contract which he rejected, his prerogative to do so, but the club reacted to his rejection by withdrawing protection from the kid and insighting, what I consider a media campaign, against Sterling. As a club Liverpool are doing absolutely nothing to resolve the situation but they remain stoically silent as Sterling is attacked by its old dogs who snarl and snap at Sterling in the press.
Sterlings name has been batted about the back pages where he has been labelled as trouble, a spoilt brat, an ungrateful boy and the club Liverpool screams silence, not a word to stop it. A classless act of a clueless club imo.
I think I'm right in saying that at no time has Sterling gone to the press to slag off Liverpool.
Imo, Sterling had no option but to not show up for training. He is trying to force a way out from behind the trenches, what else can he do?The club wont offer him a revised contract, the club have not defend him against snipes from old players, the club have dragged their feet when dealing, if that's he word, with interested parties. The club have done nothing other than expect Sterling to return to training with his tail between his legs begging to stay and play for them.
The old heavy behemoth that is Liverpool appears to be sinking under the weight of old success made heavier by the lack of new ones, so I can see why Sterling wants out and Liverpool, if they had any class left, should let him go.
