Thanks for clearing up that, you hadn't need to as nobody argued that he was on 110k a week at United. My point was you have no proof of his earnings at Fernebache, so you can't say how much the package was.
Back to original point as you clearly have forgotten so had to change point, Matt Phillips is overpriced at £10million. Shaquiri (and probably Nani) are better value. Irrespective of "packages" where Phillips will likely be demanding 50k a week (or so he should), he's overpriced at £10mil. That is why nobody is paying it.
No the £110k a week reference that in fact you questioned, I then cleared up that that was in relation to a sellers package of £21m cash benefit to United. They would have accepted a lower fee because they wanted him off the wage bill and so by accepting the lower fee they saved themselves over £17m in wages.
Its these complexities that you keep missing. The position of the seller affects the price for any buyer.
Think of it this way, lets say your house is worth £1m but you aren’t looking to sell it or move. Its in the perfect position for your commute, near family, friends, grew up inn the area, if you move you incur additional costs buying a new house, etc
Someone knocks on your door and says I want to buy your house. I’ll give you £1m. You aren’t going to accept that. You wil want a premium to overcome the costs as you are reluctant seller.
But if you were deciding to move jobs and go to a new area and you need to sell the house. If someone offered you a million you would accept that.
If Ramsey was to decide you know what Phillips isn’t going to fit into my team next year and we put him on the transfer list. Then this would probably be £5m mark.
But what actually has happened is, we see him as key to our hopes of automatic promotion. So if you want to sell him you will have to pay a premium and £10m is our price. If that’s too much and it puts you off, well as I said in my first post, good, that’s partly the point so feck off, we don’t want to sell him anyway, that’s why were are asking for a little more than what is probably the true market value.
Shaqiri and Nani are better value from a neutral perspective but they aren’t players that either Pulis wants to or can sign so in that sense they aren’t direct comparisons and aren’t really that relevant. The Shaqiri comparison is misleading. If he is such good value. Well then WBA can go ahead and try and buy him and not worry about Phillips.
If they cant well then they need to decide if Phillips is too much money at £10m. Then they need to take their money elsewhere and hope they find a better alternative for the £7m plus wages they were looking to spend.
