Benzema rumours back again. We've been linked with this guy pretty much every Summer since he was 19-20.

This gets tiring. If they want him go get him. I hope he's worth all the hype.

He's actually done very well in Spain but.. not quite lived up to his potential.

At Lyon Benzema was looking like he was going to be something special. I do think a change of Club might be good for him and he is well suited to the EPL.

He's at one of the best clubs in Europe and getting paid a stack of cash to play in the lovely sun. I don't think he cares too much about moving, unless they want to get rid.

TBH I can't see Madrid letting Benzema go, unless they have another world class striker lined up....But if Benzema did sign for us, I could see him easily fitting into our system and banging the goals in. But if we did want him, he would cost a fortune, and then his wages too would be huge, so from that perspective I don't see it happening.

I also disagree with the argument that he has not fulfilled his potential at Madrid, he has won everything there is to win for them, and the only reason he may not seem as a huge megastar is because he gets drowned out of the hype by the likes of Ronaldo and Bale, who are put out there by the Madrid machine....It's always been like that at Madrid, where they had great players-strikers, but who weren't part of the huge hype marketing train, and so they floated under the radar and it seemed like they weren't doing so well.

Benzema has done well but at 19-20 he looked like he was going to be an Henry/Ronaldo quality striker. For me he's not quite achieved what he should have.

No, he has been poor. He was only a part of a top three of Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain who had the scoring record for Europe until this season when Messi, Neymar and Suarez beat them by 5 goals <doh>

Not sure what the point of your comment is. The Bear is not disputing the fact that Benzema has done well, but that he has not yet reached the level we all thought when he was 19, correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure he is yet to score more than 30 goals in a season for Madrid, we all know he has the talent to score that many, but clearly playing with Ronaldo, has not allowed him to be the main man of an attack.

I hope extending Arteta's contract doesn't mean we are not going to bring in DM cover!!! Wenger better not screw this up.

Are there any rumours out there other than
Not sure we will. Bearing in mind we have Arteta and Flamini covering Coqs position, it doesn't seem likely. We have to get rid of Flamini before we have any hope of bringing in a new DM. Also we are looking less likely to bring in a CF either, we theoretically have enough CF cover for that position - Giroud, Welbeck and Walcott. I'm not convinced with Welbeck and Walcott hasn't proved he can play as our main CF.

If this is how we approaching next season, forget a title challenge. It's business as usual unfortunately.

We have a chance to get in some quality into the squad. Arteta and Flamini are simply not good enough. If Coq is gone for any reason we are absolutely lopsided and back to our old gong-ho habit of all out attack. Arteta can't stay fit and when he does he's not strong or quick enough to screen the back 4. Flamini just sucks. I would be really upset if this Bielik is thrown in and gets hammered (you know how our fans get). We'll be back to fans infighting and train station abuse all over again. We have money to strengthen now!

Agree. We really need to use this window to buy a DM. especially as Schneiderlin is available. It would be madness to miss out

Even if Schneiderlin is proving too difficult with Utd most likely offering more in wages. The guy from Sevilla Grzegorz Krychowiak is we gettable. He is quality. He'll be cheaper. He's only 25 as well. He can play CB if needed.

Not sure where Schneiderlin wants to go. Rumour has it he wants to play for us but ManU seem to be the front runners.

I do agree that we need to seize the opportunity and get a quality DM in, but i fear that Wenger may settle for just Coqs and some backups. Not saying that we won't be able to challenge, but we need to clear out some more players and streamline things with a better crop of players.

I'd rather we have less but more quality, than just have numbers.

That's exactly what it means. It seems some things never change. Here's a chance to sign a french international in a position where we are lacking depth and quality and yet it seems like Wenger wants to gamble once again.

I hope I'm wrong because I can't for the life of me understand why Wenger would neglect this position. We have every position covered apart from this one. If Coq gets injured or fatigued during the season, expect a sequel to some 5/6 goal drubbings.

Not sure that giving Arteta a 1 year deal means we won't sign a DM. To be honest it would be pretty harsh not to give Arteta another deal given what he's done for us. He is our captain after all and the fact that it is only a 1 year deal suggests that Wenger still has another long term option planned.
