To be honest though, Opsina and Chesney should be battling for that 2nd choice spot now behind Cech. I can't really see a place for Martinez, but if Wenger rates him, then he'll probably stay. Can't see us keeping 4 keepers though.
Id imagine wenger would get rid of ospina (regardless of how harsh it is on him) as szczesny has more potential to improve snd also is home grown. Whereas keeping ospina would limit how many other non-home grown players we could sign. Also Ospinas height will never improve, but szczesny - golden gloves winner in 2014 can improve on most of his weaknesses (a lot of which are mental)
I think it'll do Szcz the world of good working as back-up to Cech for a few years, particularly if we get Cechs GK coach in too. I still see Szcz as a long term GK option for us, he is top quality just has to work on certain areas of his game.
Is Chezzers still classed as home grown? I know there were new proposals put out there which meant the rules changed and he was one who was potentially affected, hence the rush for english talent.
For me Ospina is a another Fabianski/almunia. Very good shot stopper but not an elite keeper. He's not commanding and his distribution is erratic. A top keeper organises the whole defence. Szezney is still young for a keeper and has potential to improve. He's also an established part of the squad as he's been at the Club for a long time. I would sell Ospina.
I didn't think that you could change the basis - I know you can't discriminate on nationality. I'd heard that the Head of the FA (whose name escapes me - it's not Gregg Dyke is it?) is increasing the number of HG players from 8 to 12 in a 23/25 man squad. But I didn't think they were able to change the criteria for what determines a home grown player. I could be wrong though.
I think many people don't realise Ospina is only a year older than Shezny, Ospina is not 32, so he too also has time to grow and improve, so the whole thing about becoming a better player doesn't have much of a basis, it applies equally to both.
I was trying to say (but failing badly) that one of Ospina's main weaknesses is his height and as a result his command of the box from crosses, no matter how much he'll improve he'll never grow taller. IMO Szczesny's main weaknesses are all mental, and being an understudy to Cech (a model professional) could make him, as he'll improve mentally and could really fulfil his potential. Either way I can't see both sticking around, as 3 keepers who are all used to being 1st choice doesn't work.
Chesney reminds me of Fabian Bartez,on his day a brilliant keeper but prone to the most stupid of mistakes.Bartez was never able to curtail his erratic behaviour and sadly I don't think Chesney ever will

I would be suprised If we got anything better than Giroud for 11m, let alone Welbeck. I doubt this rumour has any legs unless Wenger is thinking of adding numbers as opposed to top quality.
