He's obviously currently trying to get him to Boro, but I doubt there's much chance of him ending up there either, it looks like he'll get a Premier League move this summer, there's plenty of clubs interested.
£££££ is the only reason he would join Reading. However nothing has happened yet,, Officially anyway.
We would be stupid not to go for him, even if he cost £12m he is a bargain. He scored 21 goals last season in 45 appearances in the league, which is made even more impressive by the fact that he didn't start every game for Blackburn, he was on the bench quite a few times. He played approximately 3500 minutes of football last season, there are 4140 minutes in a full season, and for him to score 21 goals in that time is what we need, and what we have needed for years!!! He is the definition of a 1 in 2 striker at this level, and that is without the likes of Snodgrass, Huddlestone, Diame, Brady, Robertson, Elmohamady in the team to create chances for him. £12m + wages of 45k a week in one year is £2.34m a year, so £14.34m is nothing compared to the amount we could receive in 2016/2017 presuming we sign Rhodes and he fires us into the Premier League, even if you finish bottom you get £100m from the TV deal alone. That is an absolutely crazy amount of money, we need to bounce back this season and in order to do this you need to sign the Championships' most prolific striker, and without a doubt that is definitely Jordan Rhodes.
We're not playing Football Manager ffs, this is real money. You don't spunk over £14m on one player in the Championship, there's absolutely no guarantee that his signing would be enough to get a club promoted, as Blackburn have proved over the past three seasons. He'll go to Premier League anyway.
A replacement of his level would probably cost upwards of £1m, we should of done everything we could to keep him. How many left footed central midfielders, who always put a shift in, never seem to lose the ball, capable of playing at higher end Championship level and would only cost £1m? None that I can think of. At the end of the day we don't know the facts, we could of offered him a great deal, but rejected it because he just simply wants to move on.
If you read my original post, the money we get from selling our current strikers will pay for him. We are not spunking £14m out, a large percentage of that would already be in the bank, dependant on selling Jelavic/N'Doye/Hernandez obviously. He won't get us promoted on his own no, but we would only need to spend £1m/£2m on a striker, say Chris Wood for arguments sake, and then loan one in and if we keep the rest of our squad in tact, on paper we should walk this league. I don't think a Premier League team would take a chance on him, and out of the 3 promoted teams, only Norwich really need a striker and I don't think they would dare spend that much.
Bit of news. According to Turkish press, swap deal Waris for Jelavic http://sonhaberizle.com/spor/nikica-jelavicte-son-dakika-h146996.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdul_Majeed_Waris Majeed Waris looks a real goal-scoring machine, played 18 games for Trabzonspor and scored 0 goals. Just the kind of player we need, another African mercenary.
Looks like a swap deal, although it's £3m plus two of three players mentioned, Yilmaz (a CM) Waris and Yatabare (both strikers). Waris is still quite young though and he's pretty highly rated. In fact we might have been linked to him before, when he was a teenager at Hacken. I don't know much about the other two, other than one plays for the Mali national team and is a bit **** and Yilmaz is a creative CM, which might be a bit more appealing if we're about to lose Quinn.
Here is the gist of it via Google translate. "Ersun the many names of the sacrifices involved in the future planning of the lateral and used as barter in this transfer on the agenda. If it accepts to play in the English Championship Majeed Waris it will be offered. As well as Mustapha Yatabaré and Sefa Yilmaz is spoken as in the list. Profesyenel of the Black team, will offer 3 million euros transfer fee plus 2 players money." It looks like the Turkish translation engine needs a bit of fine tuning
