Sad news that he died of a severe heart attack last night.
The thing i remember most about him was the distance he could get on his kicks. In the days of a much heavier ball he could turn defence into attack by reaching the opposition penalty area.Very sad news, one of my very earliest memories was all those oranges being chucked at our goalie, surely it wasn't 1966 though.
RIP Kekkers, one of my earliest City hero's.
Topical Times annual was brilliant.Always the first thing on my Xmas list.R.I.P Ian. I shall read the Topical Times Annual circa 68 with an article about him.
I cursed him when he played a blinder for Southend against us in 65 denying us, 0-0 .That derailed us, but welcomed him afterwards.Atrue character
When you are a young kid and you first become emotionally welded to a team, the players of that team, in the 7 or 8 year old mind, are not merely human, they are of god-like status.
For me that team was the 70/71 City team.
Ian was the goalkeeper of that team and therefore a hero to me.
The first name, at the time, I uttered in awe as I listed the team in my mind or in discussions with other football mad young kids.
Condolences to family and friends.
RIP. A true City great.
