god bless. one of my all time favorite hull city players.i in my humble opinion a true hull city legend. r.i.p. ian.
There is a rumour in the other thread about Ian but couldn't find anything confirming that he had died ... I was sincerely hoping that it was not true. To me he was a true legend.
Very sad news, one of my very earliest memories was all those oranges being chucked at our goalie, surely it wasn't 1966 though. RIP Kekkers, one of my earliest City hero's.
How strange that we just had another thread about him. My mum and dad used to talk about him a lot from their early days as fans. RIP.
I was shocked to read this news. Only yesterday I was reading another thread about him not having any photos of himself surrounded by his customary offerings of oranges. Like many others on here, I'll bet, I even had a session browsing and looking for an appropriate picture. My condolences to Mrs Mac. The Hull City family is poorer without you, Ian.
The thing i remember most about him was the distance he could get on his kicks. In the days of a much heavier ball he could turn defence into attack by reaching the opposition penalty area. Also as he started as a outfield player i am sure he played part of a testimonial game on the wing. RIP Ian
R.I.P Ian. I shall read the Topical Times Annual circa 68 with an article about him. I cursed him when he played a blinder for Southend against us in 65 denying us, 0-0 .That derailed us, but welcomed him afterwards.Atrue character
Truly shocked to hear this, got a lot of happy memories of Ian. Like it's been said above.........a true Hull City legend. Condolences to his family. R.I.P Ian
A real character of the game, I had the pleasure watching him play and be bombarded with oranges. RIP.
When you are a young kid and you first become emotionally welded to a team, the players of that team, in the 7 or 8 year old mind, are not merely human, they are of god-like status. For me that team was the 70/71 City team. Ian was the goalkeeper of that team and therefore a hero to me. The first name, at the time, I uttered in awe as I listed the team in my mind or in discussions with other football mad young kids. Condolences to family and friends. RIP. A true City great.
I beat you by a couple of years Ernie. I used to go with my mates (we were aged 10 when our parents said it was okay to go unsupervised). Can you imagine letting your child go to a go nowadays without supervision. RIP Ian. If memory serves me right, he cut in from the left wing in his testimonial against Leeds, he scored and we won 7-6
