There's a short video of Quevega and her filly in the paddock on the Irish National Stud's Twitter feed. She looks a good, attentive mother.

Evening, Princess, and it's nice to see you back. Genuine question, and the answer's needed to settle a retirement-home argument which threatens to turn nasty.

Who was the last Epsom Derby winner to be trained at Clarehaven ? Rachel's Husband was (we think) at Stanley House in Benny the Dip's year; Jim here claims to have seen photos of Spion Kop and P.P. Gilpin, but he's almost certainly lying. If you can trace it, the winning trainer's name would be useful, too.

Spion Kop, Derby winner 1920, trained by Peter Gilpin is the last Clarehaven Stable Derby winner I can find. Surely there's one after that?

Benny The Dip was trained by Gosden. Wasn't that from Clarehaven?

No, Ron, it was before Gosden bought and moved to Clarehaven. Benny was trained by Gosden at Stanley House.

Just seen that Spion Kop was not even the best middle distance colt in his own stable and was rated one of the worst Derby winners in the 20th Century (along with Aboyeur)

Erm, think I could manage a learned Cyclonic-style essay on Spion Kop, but I honestly don't think anyone would read it <laugh>. What d'you think?

Shall I summarise it for you Swanny?

P = Placed. L= Unplaced. He was 2nd in his St Leger prep race but there were only 2 runners so I called that a loss. For his Derby prep (not shown) he had a private race against his stable mates (and came last). In his final race the 2'5 mile Ascot Gold Cup he actually finished 4th but was promoted to 3rd

I did it anyway, because, you know, Spion Kop was quite a nice fellow. Received a hell of a lot of help from Vincent Orchard, but I did 'sex' it up a bit! <laugh>

Anthony Oppenheimer has announced he intends to stand GOLDEN HORN at stud in the UK, probably Newmarket. There would be a handful of contenders: Darley (possible as they own his sire), Cheveley Park (seem to prefer to stand sprinters and milers), the National Stud (no real funds of their own to purchase a colt of that calibre, but always a chance he may be leased to them) or Lanwades (strong owner/breeder ethic and recently started to expand their roster).

I'd imagine that Darley would be keen to stand him. Cape Cross is not exactly in the first flush of youth and at the moment Golden Horn looks as though he would be an obvious successor

She was sold in December 2012 for 62,000 to Norelands Stud. They then sold the Champs Élysées filly she was carrying for €150,000. The mare has a yearling filly by Acclamtion this year who is to be retained. There is no foal this year as she was barren but she is in foal to Shamardal now.

pN, Golden Horn was Fleche d'Or's 2nd foal. Has Oppenheimer kept the first-foal Eastern Belle, who appears to be a 4yo in training in the US.

Do you know how many of Fleche d'Or's sisters he has?

Notice Ben Sangster seems to have a share in Fleche d'Or
