Because they were holding out thinking they would get promoted this season past, and they now need to start shedding higher earners. He's reported to be available for 7-8m.
How much do we think itd take to get wells? Think him and a glen murray partnership might go well hoping palace spunk some of the tv cash on strikers so hes surplus to requirements
Wells signed a four and a half year deal in January 2014, so it depends on what Huddersfield are paying him. I'd guess they'd take £4m, they spent £1.3m (from the Examiner article that covered his signing, still unconfirmed) so trebling it would probably do it. If we are going with a 3-5-2, I'd rather have Nuhiu at Sheffield Wednesday or Hanson from Bradford. I don't think either would break the bank and they're both big, hardworking players who score goals.
I think we need 4 strikers. 1 well known guaranteed 20 goals in the Championship and another 3 decent scorers. If we need to be a bit savage in selling to get in the goal scorers, then so be it. It has been a huge problem for a number of seasons now. It pisses me off watching ****e and seeing us clinging on to a one nil lead. Build a team around a prolific front line.
Afuckingmen. I know Warnocks a **** but he always had 4-6 strikers and dropped em as soon as they stopped scoring. Think Deano had a paddy about been dropped for a play off final. Did warnock give a ****? No. Looking at the 20 goals though and its difficult to see who is good enough or available. But as you say sacrifice a Brady or Robbo for a proper goal scorer its worth it.
Say for example's sake we ended up with 6 strikers, what happens to the four that aren't playing/getting into the team? They get pissed off and the dressing room morale starts to suffer. Agree we need some firepower, but I'd rather we scouted a proper goalscorer and then brought in a loan from a PL club to back him up, strikers are well expensive and it's not the only part of the team that needs strengthening. We actually have 3 very good strikers at the moment, the problem is the way we play is total **** and we can't get the best out of them. If it's safe to assume that 2 of the three will leave, then we need to replace them with two purchases and a loan.
Awwww will they cry or have a Tickles hissy fit. If we had 6, 2 on the pitch, 2 on the bench and two sulking in the stands. We'll have injuries and suspensions to contend with. By that load of bollocks Jakupovitch must be responsible for us going down then with his bad sulky attitude about not playing.
Why would we have 6 when we only need 4 maximum? The 3 strikers we have under contract have already said they don't want to stay in the championship. We may be able to get a fee for Jelavič and N'doye and go out and set a clear signal of intent by buying proven strikers at our level. I'd go out and get Rhodes, Murray and 2 others. Goals win games, clean sheets are no use if you can't score.
It's not bollocks, you're exaggerating. Goalkeepers are different, most back up goalies know they are just that and can deal with it. 6 strikers is ****ing ridiculous and a total waste of money.
I don't think Murray is getable, he did pretty well for Palace last year and Pardew rates him. Any 2 of Nuhiu, Wells, Rhodes or Guidetti would suit me. The rest we can cover with loans.
I said 4-6. How can they be a waste of money when you dont know how much these imaginary players cost. Maguires been a waste of money cos we havent played him. So has Ince. Hernandez has been a huge waste of money. We went into last season with way too many similar players and not enough forwards. With injuries 4 wouldnt have been enough as at tmes we didnt have a forward on the bench. I'd rather have a league 1/2 forward on the bench than lets stick Sone up there and hope for the best.
That's the big problem hutch, we've got to get some creativity behind the front 2, relying on Elmo and Brady crossing from deep all the time isn't the answer. It's a good wepon but we need another option, so brucies biggest task is finding a style of play to accommodate it. It's a shame Diame and snodgrass won't be fit for the start of the season as Id like to see ............New striker........ Snodgrass diame ince In a 4231 formation like swansea Personally I'd sacrifice Elmo or Brady if the right offer comes along, Id sacrifice Thudd and buy 2 cm to be the new 2 behind the 3 attacking midfielders. Providing we can keep them and get them fit in my eyes the answer is in the squad at the min it's just the 64 million dollar question of a striker we carnt get
Play Brady at LB like he just did a good job at for Ireland, sell Elmo as he's not good enough defensively to be a RB or in attack to be a RW. Buy a decent RB (Shame we just got rid of a very good one) and play exciting, attacking football with a positive formation. Shame that isn't going to happen, we're stuck with 3-5-2 for as long as Bruce is here.
Agreed sacrifice a Brady but not a Robbo. He's a potentially world class talent who are few and far between at clubs like ours. Hold on until it's impossible to keep him any longer, like if an Arsenal or a Chelsea comes in for him to actually play in their first team.
I think you have hit the nail on the head. Having Elmo and Brady as an option from wide is a great option. The issue is, this past 18 months if you have stopped Elmo playing you have stopped us playing. Our whole team is built around crosses from wide. We need something through the middle. Very rarely have I seen us attack as a unit, with the whole midfield getting involved. I honestly think our squad is in a poor shape, we have a bunch of decent individuals but no cohesion and in these past 12 months we have had no idea how to play them. I hope we use going down as a chance to blood Maguire, Ince, Lenihan and get some young blood into this side.
Agree with you 100% in regards to the squad, the whole of last season our forward two must have received the ball at an average height of 10 feet off the ground and 95% of the time with there back to goal, also because we throw so many high long ball's forward, and our midfield is not mobile enough,so we don't get to the loose balls, the midfield to me is were we will stand or fall this season although our forwards have been poor, our midfield been worse.
Non of our forwards are what I'd call target men so Elmo crossing from deep was wasted. Jelavic imo needs the ball in and around the 6 yard box to be at his best. We don't dominate teams or create his chances enough for him to be effective. His goal record at Everton scoring on his first touch as I remember was good
