No thanks to Casillas. He's on the downslope now unfortunately.

Stoke have pulled one off if they've managed to sign kono on a freebie. As Tobes said, surprised he's not got bigger clubs interested in him though... They'll make a tidy profit on him in next few years

It is bizarre that only one club was in for Kono.

His stats were down on the previous season, still young though

£100k wages probably put some off and want him to start on half that much until he's proven himself in the PL

they might but the player had no favors done by his club and frankly he did himself no favours either after or before that.

We will see what he does wehn he does this move as he's got to up his efforts

Apparently Man Utd have signed Gaitan, Gundogan, and Schneiderlin

And have bid £61m to bring back the player Fergie let go for free

Casillas was only ever top class because he pulled off worldie saves and he gets a lot of protection in the spanish league when contesting aerial balls (typical european reffing and real madrid bias). He wouldn't ever be able to hack it in the prem as he's as flappy as they come. Now that his world class saves have been dropping off and he's making consistent clangers, top clubs shouldn't be touching him with a barge pole. He's too small to have a dominating aerial presence.

Kono is a really good free signing for stoke. I'm surprised you guys haven't gone in for him from previous links and also now they he is free and you need more attacking firepower. He looked really good in the europa league final and he's been one of the main men for the Ukraine. He's fast and still relatively young. As for the 100k a week wages being bandied around, if he does got to stoke i doubt very much they will be paying him that

Casillas won't leave Madrid at this point in his career even if De Gea arrives, at 34 and a 1 club man I think he'll stay put and fight for his place.

De gea has coped ok with the aerial stuff after a year of getting used to it.... Coutois has cope dok coming from Spain as well...

Yea but unlike Casillas, both are much taller (De Gea massively struggled when he first joined and even now i wouldn't say he dominated his area, he's much better at it. He's shined this year due to his shot stopping which has always been class). Also both joined the club at much younger ages where you could coach them and expect them to learn. Casillas on the other hand is 34 and only ever played in la liga as a top class club where he hasn't had to face Sam Allardyce managers who think a free kick on the half way line is a decent chance

Casillas is 6ft 1 so hardly a short arse like.

Not sure I agree with you with that assumption either, I think he's still got plenty to offer, but I don't see him leaving anyway

6'1" is midget in keeper terms. Even if you have an abnormally large ape index you're not going to get to nearly as many high crosses.

Are you and Biscan saying Casillas is good in the air? As for 6ft1 being tall, maybe for the common folk like you but for a keeper thats tiny (he looks it too). That is also the same height as Shay Given who again is also a tiny keeper (and looks it again)

That's a fantastic piece of business by Stoke if true

I can't believe the lad hasn't had a better offer on the table though!

Something's happened with that one in the last 18 months. If he's the same player who played against Spurs over a year ago, then fine. Can't believe everyone else has passed up on him though, unless there's a reason.

cause they are all dumb? I know in the world of scouts and stuff like this rarely happens but it does. Hell all the big clubs passed on Suarez and we all know how he turned out!.

I watched him the other week in the EL final and he still looked boss to me.

What put many off was his £100k per week wage demands apparently, but on a Bosman and at 25, even at that he's stonking value.

I'm saying he's still a top drawer keeper mate, and you're over playing his height as an issue imo. As crosses do exist outside of these shores.....

yes, of course if you can simply hock him for 10mil in a years time then 100k = only 50k per week over prem average = 2.5mil.

its a no brainer IF he's right

anyway.....

we will see cos really he should have a deal someplace just not announced and jule 1 it'll come out.

Fair enough. I will politely disagree. I think he'd probably be a little bit lower than Mignolet. Good shot stopper but flappy flappy. Would have to play in front of a dominant defence.
