I said in advance and I said on the Sunderland boards in relation to them getting him that I rate him overall and would like to have him. Not a change of heart here, for me he has been the best option all along. Still expecting Carver though.
Well I think we all wanted vieira to be excited. I think that McClaren is a decent choice. I've looked at the players hes had and hes done very well considering. I'm hoping to see us get a little more into the dutch and german market. Especially with the need for defensive players. I'll get behind the guy as long as he's not a twat like pardew was.
You lot have to do better than Carver and for us atm we will not do better than biggest Dickus. For both teams what is even more important is at least 5 new quality players who will be automatically in the starting line up
don't you think its going to be hard to persuade quality players to join with your manager only being there 1 season its hard enough getting good players to come to the north east without them thinking my face might not fit with the new manager
I think both clubs need some bodies in and pushing for first team starts, a handful each. "quality" players are hard to judge until they've been around a while but if we haven't got at least 3 players (CB, ST and probably another CB) in before August who are in and around the first team then we are in massive trouble, Yes ideally it would be more and they'd be proven performers but that probably isn't realistic. The likes of Ayew and Austin get touted in the media but I honestly don't see why they would come here (or Sudnerland for that matter) when there would presumably be better offers.
We're relying on the contacts of Dick and Congerton which do spread quite far and wide, for example the reason we got dick in the first place was Congerton Via Frank Arnesen and he spans a web of his own in contacts and influence. The Club has got under Dick's skin we made the ****er cry, We average 40k+ have the finest facilities, location is rubbish yeah, but hopefully the rest combined and the lure of the Premier League can mask some of the bad points in recent times. You reckon Ashley will spend? You've had some cracking players over the years, if you've got the cash and the right man to choose the players there's no reason why you can't bring in quality.
Not convinced about anything regarding Ashley. I think he will have to spend a bit because he's not actually stupid but he'll want to spend the minimum amount he thinks he can get away with and still stay in the league. We got Lascelles last summer and he will be touted as one of our new CB signings, we NEED another one who is proven either in the prem or generally - a Shawcross/ Ashley Williams type of solid but unspectacular (we wouldn't get either of those though). I think we have some of the flair around (Cisse, Perez, Cabella, Siem De Jong, Aarons) and some decent pace (the one thing the likes of Sameobi and Obertan have) but we lack the backbone and the cutting edge. Our midfield is far from great (Sissoko, Tiote, Colback, Anita, De Jong, Cabella, Aarons, etc) but it's lightyears ahead of our defence!! (Janmaat + crap. Maybe a bit hard on Dummet/Haidara, but probably not).
Has he honestly? It seems odd that Ellis would give the required £££ to a bloke on a 12 month contract? Rumour has it you will get Allardyce mid season so if that's the case he may have different ideas. I think recenue from player sales may need to be factored in to any pot also mind.
I did laugh at your post the difference is the others were supposed to be permanent.I know players go where the money is but I think a lot like stability
I think McLaren will be exactly like Pardew - - he will get better than average results out of the materials he is given to work with, keep us well clear of the relegation zone and not cause a fuss. Competent and enthusiasm destroying.
I would not be at all surprised if our most common defensive lineup next season is Haidara Dummet Lascelles Janmaat
Bottom line for Sunderland and Newcastle regarding transfer funds, both are making claims money is there, actions will speak louder than words. I expect excuses why we couldn't, and probably the same down the road. Two underachievers.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall when John Carver is attempting to 'coach' his players in front of Steve McClaren, it'd be hilarious. I wonder what Bobby Robson thought when he was looking at Carver on the training pitch, he probably thought he was one of these nuggets who entered a competition to come and have a kickabout with his heroes or something.
I think you've plucked that out of your arse mate. Elis isn't giving it to him really, he's giving it to our DoF. Investment was one of Dick's conditions but he'll be working with Lee Congerton. Dismiss it if you like fella, Makes no mater to me, my club is off for some desperately needed shopping.
This is the key for me. We need to be realistic of course but we somehow need to find a Williams, Collins, Shawcross type from somewhere.
