There was an interview highlighted saying Dick had joined SAFC - but after I posted the URL, I noticed it was recorded in March! Sorry chaps.
Hearing they want him and an assistant/number 2 to be groomed to take over when he leaves in 2016. No indications yet who though. Presuming it may be a young ish manager, possibly a Dutch Protege. Any ideas?
Ah, no worries fella, the rest of the reports are good. It's got more legs than a millipede. Happy days fella.
If this is true, its great news and hopefully he attract the 6 players he says we need to progress and in the meantime it gives us time to find a successor.
So, I go for some lunch then the first thing I would normally check would be Not606 to see if there's any more juice about the manager. Thinking there's going to be naff all I go to the Guardian sports page first to catch up on other news....and there it is! I wonder if I can be first to post this on the forum - ha ha no chance! Brilliant news as far as I'm concerned. I did actually call him a genius after the Arsenal game as I couldn't see any way he'd pul lthat off with the team he selected. Good job I'm not in charge. Be interesting to see what happens with the team now but I'm looking forward to next year's fixture list coming out to plan a few journeys with my son.
@YoungSunEcho Dick Advocaat to @DeTelegraaf_MUN continued: "The owner is willing to do so to make resources available" #safc
Short of some kind of unrealistic dreamland appointment this is as good news as we could have hoped for, superb. You can tell he's the right man as I don't think anyone here doesn't want him at the club.
Brilliant news! I'm hoping he'll be more likely to attract a better quality of player than we may have been able to get with some of the other managers suggested.
Advocaat confirmed as head coach Published: 04 June, 2015 by Stuart Vose Dutchman pens one-year deal on Wearside. Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Dick Advocaat as head coach. The highly-experienced Dutchman has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the Stadium of Light. Speaking about his decision to return, Dick Advocaat said: “After a lot of discussions with Ellis and Lee, they convinced me that I am the right man for the club. “It was a great feeling to be part of Sunderland in the last few months, the experience was something very special and after talking with Lee, Ellis and of course my family, we all agree it is the right decision.” Sunderland AFC chairman Ellis Short said: “Dick’s credentials in football are top class and we saw what an impact his vast knowledge and experience had on our team and the club as a whole in just two months. “Sunderland fans took him to their hearts and so did everyone at the club, so we are absolutely thrilled that he will be here longer term.” The club’s sporting director, Lee Congerton, added: “Dick was always our number one choice and we were determined we weren’t going to take 'no' for an answer. I have been in constant contact with him over the last two weeks and I'm absolutely delighted that he has agreed to return. “In just a short space of time he has bought into the club wholeheartedly and understands exactly what we need now in order to move forward. We have a lot of work to do to prepare for the season ahead and that starts in earnest now.”
