There was a slight mis-quoting by Carrabuh earlier in this thread that has coursed a lot of quoted responses to get messed up. Made this thread the little bit more confusing to read.

In response to your accusations Carra, I don't care if England had gotten the world cup. What I don't like is high levels of corruption in a sport that I happen to hold quite dearly, and one that has already been put on the path to ruin by all the money that has been thrown indiscriminately at it.

I really don't see how you can possibly defend what's happened with the World Cups! Qatar is simply one of the worst venues on this planet to hold one. If Blatter was still in control it'd probably be given to DRC or Syria in 2026.

I think it was a noble idea to spread Football around the world more and to attempt to boost smaller nations involvement but to do it through means of corruption, to send it to somewhere like Qatar! That's simply wrong.

Additionally, how much good have these world cups been doing for these "Lesser" nations? I'm not entirely sure what it's been like for South Africa but I know they built a lot of Stadia at huge expense for their world cup. Brazil spent even more and the stadiums they built are essentially giant parking lots now, and it came at the expense of rainforest in some areas, and certainly at the expense of improving the lives of millions in that country.

The one bad thing about Blatter resigning and this all blowing up is that it's taken so long. Qatar should never have been awarded the world cup, or at least had it immediately rescinded. Now thousands have died building the stadiums, many more are predicted to and it might all be for absolutely nothing in the end.

What irks me Colk is the fact that in all probability should we qualify we would still send a team to Qatar despite everything that has happened there so far with regard to the dreadful working conditions deaths etc. It simply baggars belief !!

I'm holding out hope that it all gets shut down. I'm hoping that internal investigation comes out soon. I imagine it makes for pretty interesting reading.

True. What it needed (past tense) was several 'high profile' footballing nations to say "we disagree with Qatar's (lack of any) stance on human rights and so we're boycotting the event" If England alone pulled out for ethical reasons, then nobody would really miss us as we rarely get out of the group stages anyway <yikes> But if, say, Spain, Germany and Italy all took the same stance, that would have far more impact in devaluing the tournament.

Do they not have a duty so show a regard for human rights? <doh>

This is exactly the problem. As an international organisation, FIFA have consistently shown a disregard for any sort of duty - they have quite literally behaved "above the law".

Widespread bribes, disregard for human rights, illogical decisions and flagrant graft are all symptomatic of an organisation that simply does not consider itself answerable to anyone at all. And they don't even deny it - when accused of all these things their response was that they had complied with "FIFA's code of ethics"! Well, obviously. Presumably FIFA's code of ethics is pretty limited then.

The main thing that FIFA needs to do is arrange with local FAs to set-up some sort of regulator that is totally independent from FIFA. Given the power and wealth of FIFA, any regulator should probably be linked to the UN or some sort of international political organisation tbh.

Agreed, and this leads into something I've been thinking about with the UN getting more involved in controlling banks and big corporations with the intent of spreading equality. FIFA are a huge organisation that has involvement across the globe. Everyone needs over sight, something we've consistently seen with bankers and corporations and governments.

Having every dealing in the public eye means they have to adhere to the public's overall general standards. With the internet becoming what it is you would think more people would be demanding the information, and heralding someone like Snowden as a hero! He's gave up his life to expose a huge amount of information to the public's, that is currently being quashed and distracted from by big media corporations.

That's a different debate though.

Jack Warner ( not Dixon of Dock Green ) Is to tell the US authorities all, with documented evidence. He claims to know the real reason for Blatters departure and is prepared to include that as well. This could run and run.

I also heard on talkSPORT this morning that he now 'fears for his life" <yikes>

Also just heard that England should be prepared to step in at short notice to host 2018 World Cup

Remember when Blatter hired Henry Kissenger to front his anti corruption investigation ? <laugh>

You just couldn't make it up.

So it turns out Blatter has "done a Carrabuh" and is now saying that he has not resigned because he has a different interpretation of the words he used...

When will this farce end?
