No they shouldn't for the reasons I gave.

None of the other countries everyone seem so up in ams about mentioned have ever hosted the tournament.

Germany have contributed far more to the sport than we have. Germany doesn't rip its fans off, it produces better players and has priorities to produce better players, their success dwarfs our own.

Mexico last had it 30 years ago when the process was made on the very elitist Europe and S America turn taking. The world is different now, football is not OUR game. Its the Worlds. We are not a shining beacon that should be dictating to others as to what they should do. To be fair I don't think our FA think that, but our fans seem to think so.

Our football clubs have money bursting out of its arsehole and yet we produce zilch in terms of truly decent players. Do we have footballs best interests at heart? We have money, thats it, not footballing morals, so we should pipe down and shut up and let others run football because we seem to be very proud of our own bean counters.

I hope the new guy keeps FIFA's priority of taking the World Cup around the globe. Keep the British out.

Well carrabuh - sometimes we agree and sometimes .......but on this occasion, I MOST definitely agree, especially the bit about ripping the fans off just to pay some incredibly ridiculous players wages!!!!

Mexico only hosted it twice because Colombia who were due to host in '86 had it taken away from them too late (due to corruption believe it or not) for a proper bidding process to take place. It was to be Mexico or Canada who got it instead, and Canada were ruled out as they were nothing like a serious international football nation back then. Bit like Qatar now, though at least Canada is/was a proper country with a large resident population.

I have no problem with Russia hosting, but how on earth anyone can possibly suggest "countries lik Qatar should be hosting it" frankly is beyond me.

Please give me one good, ethical reason they should because apart from money I can't think of a single one.

The person at the top has to be responsible and take full responsibility. The same with any CEO, that is what they are paid for. He has jumped before the US nail him, just watch.

I thought that FIFA, as well as EUFA, were big exponents of the 'Kick it out' anti-racism campaign - and deservedly so. How then, can awarding a global tournament to Russia help pursue these aims?
Remember what happened when Yaya Toure played champions league vs CSKA Moscow?
So, what will happen when Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast etc all turn up to participate? :emoticon-0112-wonde
Sorry, Munky, but i think it's despicable and reeks of the stench of the oligarch rouble, to award the tournament to racist Russia <grr>

    Agree 100% Cromer.

Russia is the most raciest country in the World,
and Putin one of the biggest dictators ever.
To allow a country to host a Global sporting
event after they annexed Crimea and openly
send in Troops and Armoury into Ukraine
Shoot down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in
July 2014 killing 298 people is a disgrace.

Sorry, I did write that in a bit of a hurry before my tube went underground so didn't get across fully what I meant. When I say I have no problem with Russia hosting, I meant in terms of the fact they are a very large country with a decent footballing history and tradition who have yet to host the tournament, so my comment was coming from the angle that they probably deserve to have hosted it by now as they are surely the biggest footballing nation with history who have yet to do so. Totally incomparable with Qatar who have absolutely no sporting history whatsoever.

On the other side of the argument, you are of course absolutely correct when you highlight some of the despicable actions that Russia have been involved in under Putin, not to mention the very serious threat of racist or homophobic attacks by some of the hardcore scum out there. You are both right that it is generally a country with a pretty shocking record with human rights and equality that goes against the grain of much of what FIFA are supposedly meant to stand for as a “progressive organisation”, so under purely ethical terms I can’t argue with what you say.

I think an interesting question for Carrabuh and others who think England/Britain unworthy of hosting another world cup any time soon is; Who is ready/worthy of hosting it in the near future?
Below we can see those who have hosted it already.
So who else has; infrastructure, fan base, ethical conduct that might befit a soon to be host? And I guess would they want it?
Australia? (Not sure about their interest levels, but definitely a valid candidate) China? (Money and interest there probably inevitable that it will soon, like Aus though not much of a team) Anywhere in Africa? (The safety concerns in SA never quite materialised, could one or more african nations step up, In future yes, now? I'm not so sure!)

I'm not saying England should have it but, Russia and Qatar for the various reasons outlined before don't seem terribly worthy to me either on ethical grounds.

    Bah!

Does everybody else always read Yarco's posts as a poem? This one in particular works really well.

GM - The answer was almost certainly in the question. I believe Australia will be awarded next, for no other reason than to take the WC to a new continent.

They should blatantly have been awarded 2022, and if common sense prevails that will be the ultimate outcome.

I won't be holding my breath though somehow

Totally agree. They have decent stadia, fans who understand the game (unlike the USA in 1994) and the infrastructure for fans and squads to travel easily between venues if required.
And also, without the slightest trace of bias, the national team's colours are remarkably similar to our own yellow and green

The issue with Australia is the time difference makes it hard for European audiences to watch (the bulk of the audience and the target for advertisers). Sponsors aren't keen unless they're getting good viewership and the TV companies don't want to pay top dollar for an event that takes place at night / morning.

I agree they should have won and would throw a great world cup I'm just not expecting it.

    Oh come on Carrabuh!

While I agree with you to an extent that England (And the Prem) have essentially ruined English football with all the money and stardom that we seem to love to shower on anyone who shows some kind of talent, you can't really believe that Qatar is more worthy to hold the world cup. Whether it be on historical contributions to football or ethical considerations, they fall far far short of a country that should even be dealt with, let alone entrusted with arguably the biggest sporting event in the world.

I don't care whether Blatter knew about all the corruption or not (If he didn't then he is the most clueless, useless president of an organisation there has ever been and clearly has no control over anything within FIFA). What matters is he has been the head of FIFA during what seems to be an entirely corrupt period of footballing history.
There probably is a lot of corruption in the other governing bodies around the world, but who is to say that didn't happen because you had to be corrupt to get the FIFA officials on their side.

It's incredible that essentially every single fan of football is delighted that Blatter has finally gone, yet you argue for the man, and still manage to bring it round to how England don't play the lovely style of football YOU want to see. It's pretty arrogant to think you're opinion on how England play football means it's ok for corruption to run rife through FIFA because "At least it'll keep the world cup away from England!"

Unfortunately England can't exactly claim to be saints on that front either. The rise of UKIP alone shows there is still a large amount of people who blame foreigners for our woes. Nothing compared to how crazy Australia has gotten and certainly not as bad as places like Qatar and Russia, but still not great.
