Newcastle United: Patrick Vieira no longer in frame for manager's job

"Patrick Vieira is out of the running to become the new head coach of Newcastle United with ex-England manager Steve McClaren favourite to get the job. Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Vieira, 38, City's under-21 manager, had been considered as a replacement for John Carver.
But both parties opted not to pursue a possible deal following differences over recruitment and transfer policy."

4 of those players were Development squad players. Watmore, Mavrias, Ba and karlsson. That squad was thread bare

I have brown single high back queen anne chesterfield too, that work well to wear, perfect to take a weight off. I'd have to walk while bending forward but I can take extra breaks if I get tired.

I read somewhere that Viera fit their criteria of young and progressive.

I see that their backups are Carver and McClaren...

So in a blatant attempt to get back on topic, <whistle> what is more important to you in choosing our new manager/head coach?
1. stabilising the club and making us hard to beat, but with not a very entertaining style of play, or....
2. Having a go next season by recruiting someone who likes attacking, exciting football, but at the risk of being on the wrong end of a lot of results through over committing and our sluggish defence?

Also! Is it just me that is more than a little concerned with some reports stating that Ellis is in no hurry to recruit the next manager and that it may not happen until the end of June!!! Other clubs have already started strengthening for next season, so if Ellis doesn't get a wiggle on, we're in danger of being left with cannon fodder to choose from in the transfer market.

as for my preference? I choose option 1. It's more important to me that we stop the annual flirtation with relegation.

I don't understand why attack has to come at the cost of a good defence to be honest. I'd prefer someone who realises the game is attacking and defending.

I can't see why we can't have someone with the experience to adapt his tactics to whatever we face from game to game. I don't think the choice is that stark.

And as long as Conger is doing his job, lining up options, speaking to agents, handling the scouts, etc, in the meantime, I'd rather Ellis take his time, learn from his previous managerial mistakes and get the right man in to then consider what potential signings are put in front of him.

I'd think most of the current signings are older, out of contract players, maybe wrong on that, but if that's the case, they shouldn't be of interest to us anyway.
 
I suppose what I'm really trying to say is do we go for what we all know is a safe pair of hands in Big Sam, or his ilk, or do we go for a more appealing, get the fans excited manager who may look good on paper, or may have been successful in other leagues, but could be yet another risky appointment that ends in tears?

I'd spend the time looking at candidates properly mate so we don't get an underwhelming safe option or a risky unknown quantity.

There's better managers on the continent than Allardyce who would come to us. We shouldn't rush into grabbing someone that proves a risk or unambitious.

Number 2 for me..Poyet's downfall was his ultra negative tactics, even against the lower sides when we played at home. And I for one don't want a repeat of that this season..

It has to be number 1 for me, we just need a solid season where we are hard to beat and not seen as an easy 3 points by the rest of the league, if we can start to get that then we can build an attacking identity on top of that. Also I'm not sure how many of the managers being linked would fit into the 2nd category, to be fair we aren't the most appealing of jobs to decent proven managers if you consider our recent track record both with managers and league position.

I'd imagine our options are a mid table manager here or other leagues in Europe (Big Sam or foreign version of), take a chance on a manager from a club beneath us (eg. Dyche) or take a chance on a manager from totally out of left field (someone plucked from an obscure league or an unheard of coach from somewhere in Europe). I'm not expecting us to sign a manager that is going to excite us, but I do think that we should be getting someone in sooner rather than later they've had since Poyet left to draw up a reasonable shortlist, we should have been prepared to hunt down the right man the moment Dick turned us down.

things do seem remarkably quiet.................not sure if that's a good sign or not.
there doesn't even seem to be a decent rumour doing the rounds.
My post Emirates euphoria is starting to wear off a bit..............I need some positive news, a sighting, a juicy piece of ITK, anything.
