Planning approval confirmed today, you'd think they'd be a bit more ambitious than an 8,000 capacity... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Did anyone go to Bootham Crescent when we had 2 sides of the ground and someone fired a firework rocket across the pitch at their goalie? I've seen some ****e matches there like, and been kicked out for D&D within 1 minute of walking in
Possibly not, for some reason the owner of the RL club filed a 29 page objection to the planning application this morning, but they ignored him.
Bootham Crescent was a great little ground. The Kit Kat Crescent was a total piss take. What twat came up with that? And also that stupid racing stripe kit.
It certainly was. Like quite a few other non-fashionable places we went to. I feel very sorry for those that missed them. It's interesting to hear some people talking of times back then. I can only assume they picked their games rather than supported, because there was so few fans, it's revealing when nobody knows them.
Remember being 3-0 down early on at that ground. My dad wanted to leave during the first half. We never leave before full time at all. Thankfully he was talked out of it.
The RL team objected as it looks likely as an amateur club they will be unable to afford the charges to use the new stadium which I believe will be on or very close to the existing York City Knights ground .....it could push them out of existence
Was that under Little? I cant remember the scoreline but defo remember us getting a pasting there. It might have been midweek and Richard Sneekes was playing centre mid is about all I can remember. Well that and the post match curry.
Around then, I'd have been about 8 so I don't really remember much detail. Might actually have been 2-0 with them getting a third disallowed. Something like that.
I remember the firework. We was behind the goal. But usually we got put in what felt like a ****ty little cage on one side/corner. First time I ever went in seats was at Bootham Crescent. Got there and there was massive queues of city fans. So we just paid on gate and went in with York fans In the "best" stand it cost us an extra £2 to upgrade. Happy times.
Last I went there I remember a kid chucking his bike off the railway footbridge 'cos he couldn't get passed the City fans coming out. Boxing Day '04 I think it was
I went to City's preseason game this season and I forgot what a dump Bootham Cresent, I am sure they will be happy to get a new stadium, though 8000 capacity is a bit uninspiring.
Remember going to Bootham when I was young with my Dad. Keith Castle ran us ragged and the Old Man kept yelling out racist obscenities at him related to Robertson's Jam!!! Embarrassing! Different era and all that! York used to have what I regarded at the time as a smart strip; Maroon jersey with a white "Y" on the front for York.
