Wrote off to a whole load of Uni's when I originally looked at going to Uni, it was easily the worst one of the lot.

Yeah it's a nice city (in most places..) You living in the halls? Been to the Mezz Bar, the student bar? I used to drink in there when I was like 15 pretending we were students :bandit:

big difference for me moving from Lincoln to Manchester though <laugh>

Wow, pretty cool! Must be some nice flats round there!
I live (well, used to live, technically..) uphill Lincoln, just round the corner from the Bailgate. Not near the estates like, Ermine and St Giles or anything. They're just full of chavvy dicks haha.

Ahh, it was pretty terrible there to be honest ha. Went downhill since someone got stabbed there a while back I think. Hadn't been there in a while though. Was good when I was like 16, they used to have bands on all the time and it always used to be packed! Getting served easily was the main attraction of course, but y'know :p

    <laugh>

I think they all knew we were underage anyway...
I remember a group of girls sat at the bar asked me "how old are you really" when I was about 16 in there and getting a drink, so I just kept on blagging with being 18 and in my first year of uni, so they asked me what I got in my A Levels so I just said "BBC" - then they laughed because that obviously just sounds like the broadcasting company... but in the end that's what I bloody got anyway! <grr> <laugh>

<laugh>! I'd have been buggered if they asked me what I got for my A levels. I probably wouldnt have known how many to say!

haha, we casually knew how to blag it anyway. my mate's a compulsive liar - he used to just randomly tell taxi drivers on the way home that we were from manchester and we'd come back for a week and were staying at his mums house... even if they never asked! who knew that's what we'd end up doing anyway! maybe i just casually wrote out my own future without realising it...

i'd have been buggered if they asked what specific A levels i took, but luckily they didn't <laugh>

yeah me and most student stay close to city centre and campus which is really nice, avoiding some of the dodgy areas. But to be fair the city has improved loads over the years (well so I've been told!) including the bars, clubs and music venues. Mezz looked pretty crappy tbh, I can only imagine being served under aged was the best attraction :emoticon-0167-beer:

aye, it sucked really. it was almost semi decent when it was in it's prime, with all the live bands and such.
it's really come along with music venues with the Engine Shed gathering bigger bands to play, but it's shocking for unsigned bands. experienced this first hand as we tried many times to get gigs, there's only really a handful of places that actually play local music. Scy have done occasionally, but above the Duke of Wellington is the only real place that does weekly gigs - and that's gone extremely downhill in the past few years.
Town centre has definitely improved though - can tell they've pumped a shed load of money into attracting young people

Haha, yeah I do get people asking me why American too. Not sure why, just sounded interested. One module i'm doing next year is American Popular song; mississippi blues to alternative rock, which sounds incredible. Basically listening to a load of Bob Dylan :D haha
A book a week, which is heavy for me considering I'm a lazy reader and don't like reading when I HAVE to haha.

    How about yourself?

You used to be I Beg Your Pardew, right? It's hard to keep up after all the Colo name changes <laugh>

    Yeah that is/was me!
Sounds pretty interesting, especially bob dylan his music basically is storytelling! Your course sounds far from dull, how many years do you have remaining?

I'm studying languages at Leeds Met, not so bad- there's not enough French modules which is the only thing that I really wanted to go to Uni for! I'm on my placement year starting in October. I shall be teaching English in a french school in Belfort which is just next to switzerland so I'm just having to sort out all my plans for accommodation etc which is a pain in the bloody ass! The french are so blase about everything, their telling me to sort out accommodation when I arrive which is 2 weeks before I start my placement! Madness!

I've just finished my first year, so still got 2 remaining. This 2nd year will be much more interesting, as it's all the modules I've chosen myself so the books and stuff will appeal to me more than this years did I suppose. Also doing a prose creative writing course, which should be good.

Oh wow, that sounds amazing! Sounds like a fantastic opportunity! Best of luck with it :) How long you there for, the full year? Would probably be a better idea to sort out your accommodation first though as you say <laugh> Telling you to sort it out when you get there is daft advice haha.
Think I get the opportunity to go to America in my 3rd year, which I may or may not take...
