Hi guys! A long time away, but thought I'd take a look and see what the crac is regarding todays unsurprising news. DA's CV looks good, but I don't see him as a long term solution to our woes. As for the wally with the brolly? Personally, I'd rather have Big Sam. He'll take no crap from the troublesome members of our squad and will at least get us going at teams.

Not bad mate. I think we'll find McLaren distensing himself from the job like he did with Villa recently. He seems very keen to see the job through at Derby.

The 67-year-old Dutchman is expected to be unveiled by the relegation-threatened club today following the sacking of Gus Poyet yesterday.

He can expect to earn around £25,000 a week for the remaining nine games of the season.

But he will also bank a cool £500,000 bonus if he keeps the Black Cats up.

Poyet was sacked on the phone by owner Ellis Short in the wake of Saturday's 4-0 home drubbing against Aston Villa after 18 months in charge.

Advocaat has been out of work since quitting the Serbian national job in November.

He has vast managerial experience having also had two spells in charge of Holland and has also been in charge of the South Korea, Belgium and Russian national sides.

NEW BOSS: Sunderland are expected to unveil Dick Advocaat as their manager [GETTY]

His clubs include PSV Eindhoven, Borussia Monchengladbach, Zenit St Petersburg and Rangers but he has never managed in England.

Sunderland's director of football Lee Congerton has turned to him on the recommendation of his close friend, Frank Arnesen, the former Tottenham and Chelsea director of football, who worked with the Dutchman at PSV.

Club sources stress that at this stage, Advocaat would be strictly a short-term appointment, having earned a reputation as a managerial firefighter.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, Steve McClaren of Derby and Michael Laudrup will all be considered in the summer although none would be interested if Sunderland go down.

Despite Congerton's increasingly strained relationship with Poyet, Short had hoped to carry on at least until the end of the season before considering a change of manager.

But Saturday's result, a mass fans' walk-out and Poyet's increasingly erratic behaviour convinced him to act now.

He said: "I would like to thank Gus for his endeavours during his time at the club, in particular last season's "great escape" and cup final appearance which will live long in the memory of every Sunderland fan.

"Sadly, we have not made the progress any of us had hoped for this season and we find ourselves battling, once again, at the wrong end of the table.

"We have therefore made the difficult decision that a change is needed."

Poyet's backroom staff of Mauricio Taricco and Charlie Oatway are likely to follow him out of the door.

Kevin Ball, who has had two spells are caretaker manager and Paul Bracewell, currently working with the development squad, will be asked to assist Advocaat.
