Was reading an article just yesterday that said we will be back in for sniederlin in the summer. Would be a good move I think.
Agreed. I really hope we get that DM position sorted this summer, it seems like it's been going on for years. Coq has done okay this season, but if we want to challenge for the title then we need somebody with a bit more quality in there. What is encouraging though is that Wenger has opted to play with a proper Defensive midfielder in the team again.
Pretty much the missing key for us and hopefully Wenger has his eyes set for a DM this summer. A very gettable target for us.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Vietto. I doubt we will go for him as we have Wellbeck and Wenger said he wanted to play Sanchez through the Middle. However, I really rate Vietto. He has scored a few crackers this season and has been consistent for Villareal. He is a bit short but he would be a great alternative to Giroud when he isn't playing. If Wenger is still at Arsenal by the the end of the season, I can't see him moving to Arsenal but he would be a good gamble at £12million. Plus he's 21.
There is a lot of newspaper stories about Coquelin today. Apparently since he came back into the side he has been one of the top defensive midfielders in the league. I really don't think Sneiderlin is any better than him.
He absolutely is. I would have Schneiderlin come in and Coq take Flamini's place. We could have both anchor our midfield. Schneiderlin is decent offensively as well. But we would give that balance we have been lacking for years
Being strongly linked with a Summer move for Subotic. Would be a good signing he would probably oust Mertesacker from our starting lineup though.
How about a sneaky move for Huntelaar? He's 31 so no spring chicken but has a few years left at the Top level - still has plenty of pace. Since leaving Madrid his goalscoring record is pretty ridiculous. In fact 103 goals in 166 apps for Schalke puts him up there with any striker. Wouldn't cost a fortune , would fit straight into our current system and is a step up in quality from Giroud.
How extactly does he fit in with our system? Wenger's two main CF's are Welbeck and Giroud and both are totally different to Huntelaar. The Dutchmen is a pure poacher, he does **** all else in a game, Wenger simply does not like players in that mould. He wants his CF's to attempt to drop deep, run the channels and be a sort of wall for the likes of Cazorla,Alexis and Ozil, which is why Giroud is our main CF. Huntelaar himslef also flopped at Real Madrid and AC Milan as well never ever establishing himself as Holland's main CF for a reason, at the real top level, he is just not good enough. If we are going to replace Giroud, then it has to be for a top quality CF, not a 31 year old Dutch goal hanger.
I pretty much disagree with you on all levels here. 1. Huntelaar all round play is just as good as Giroud but he gets ALOT more goals. He's a good size can hold the ball up and is considerably quicker than the Frenchman. 2.Our system wouldn't change at all with Huntelaar up top. For the past 5 Seasons he's been smashing them in. Also he has on several occasions become Hollands Number 1 choice ahead of RVP. In fact had he not picked up an injury going into the last World Cup - he would have started for the Netherlands. Criminally underrated player.
1. He is not an all round player, no chance. He goes missing a lot during games but is clinical when he gets his chance. In the last two seasons, his goal tally is hardly that impressive compared to Giroud. 2. Clearly not 'smashing them in' during the last two seasons. 3. When LVG first became the Dutch manager he started ahead of RVP, but was soon replaced and Van Persie became the main man, he gets more minutes in qualifiers but that's only because they have to play a lot of dross. In major tournaments, RVP has been their main man since 2010, and Huntelaar has had to sit on the bench. Thanks for mentioning his injury, that's another problem with him. Think he started only 17 games or less in the league last season. So no point singing a 31 year old injury prone Dutch goal hanger. If we really want to replace Giroud, we ought to set our sights a lot higher.
I just think he's one of those players who does'nt get the recognition he deserves. He gets labelled 'average' by the British press but the reality is he has fantastic goalscoring record and that kind of ruthlessness in front of goal does'nt really get appreciated. Also according to OPTA Huntelaar has a conversion rate of 27% - "Of the players to score 40+ goals across the last 3 Bundesliga seasons, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has the best shot conversion rate. Deadly." To put that into perpsective. Girouds conversion rate is 13.9% (and was 12.1% last Season) - I think with a team as creative as ours that would be a significant difference.
We can agree to disagree about him all day long, but my final point is simply that we need to be getting a better CF than Huntelaar if we are going to go big and upgrade on Giroud. And anyway, with the season Giroud is having he is probably going nowhere, seems to be getting better every season, so I suspect Wenger will keep faith with him.
Huntelaar would last 3 seconds with us before he picks up another of his long term injuries! Regarding Schneiderlin vs Coquelin I think it's possible to accomodate both. Statistically Coquelin in the best DM in the league since the new year, outshining even Matic in tackles, interceptions, duels, headers and so forth. He's even quite tidy on the ball and I'd defy anyone to argue that he's not been the catalyst to our change in fortune. Whether he can keep it going is another matter but for 10 weeks he's been very consistent and he was instrumental in us beating both United and Citeh in Manchester! Schneiderlin looks to me like a stronger version of Arteta (how Wenger plays Arteta anyway). He's a cultured player but strong and positionally astute. He looks like an ideal replacement for Arteta but I think both players can have a role at the club, opposition pending over who'd start. You could probably use both sometimes in the same way Saints use both Schn/Wanyama.
I hope dortmund get relegated so we can get a couple of there players at a knockdown price Sven Bender and Hummels would do a lot of good for our spine
No chance now. They've turned a corner and won 4 on the bounce now. In no way was this linked with Reus coming back to full fitness. No siree bob.
Been following the Raheem Sterling contract saga for the last few months and it just does not look he will sign an extension and he only has one and a half years or something left on his contract, maybe we should try a cheeky bid in the summer. Walcott plus £25 Mil?
