Come now.. He was signed clearly as a replacement for Anelka. And even if we had both, how would having both have made us any better anyway given we played 4-4-2 with two strikers and one of those was Bergkamp?? Its not as Henry was burning himself out or needing the competition. He was quite possibly the greatest striker in the world for a few seasons. But no... You're right... I'm sure Anelka would have been better for us and won us more trophies.
It's not fantasy. It's debating cyms statement that if Anelka had stayed it was more than possible that we'd have won more trophies than having Henry up front as our sole front man. I'd say it's not 'more than possible'. It's as close to 'nigh on impossible' as you can get without ever being able to prove something.
Anelka was just a pacy centre forward. Thierry was a creative, flamboyant genius. I would rate him considerably higher. Our whole team scored more with Thierry in the side. He got assists, drifted in and out of position - he scared defences rigid. Also agree with Cini on this - its highly improbable Henry would have been signed had we kept Anelka. The money from the sale of Anelka enabled us buy several World Class players.
I agree totally and unequivocally that while Anelka was a good (maybe great) striker, Henry was so much more than just a great striker. But I thought the argument was that if we'd kept Anelka (as well as everyone else we'd had then and signed after him) then we'd have won more than if he'd left.
Yeah.. These hypethicals are weird. Imagine if we still had RVP for example. ---Sanchez------Carzorla-------Ozil--- --------------------VanPersie----------------- That's a pretty scary attack right there.
Yeah I'm so annoyed that RVP went - as with the signings we made since (the types of ones he said we weren't making and that's why he left), then we could have had an awesome team - and another hypothetical is that if we'd had a goal scorer 2 years ago we may have won the league. And to add a bit of spice we could have had as well - --------------------Fabergas-------------- ---Sanchez------Carzorla-------Ozil--- --------------------VanPersie-----------------
No id play fab as a deep lying playmaker with a holding midfielder or a box to box midfielder next to him
If he was signed as a replacement for Anelka how come we were heavily linked to Henry prior to and during the 1998 World Cup ? I am sure I have read that Wenger said that his plan was to have Anelka & Henry playing together
I liked Anelka. There, I said it. As a footballer, I should probably add. As a human being he was a mahoosive c*nt.
According to one post I've seen the FA are investigating the transfer of Callum Chambers to Arsenal! Not sure why.
Damn them third parties! Seems strange, as he was a youngster, and usually Arsenals dealings are all above board - well at least since George Graham left...
Has anyone got an update on Kheidera has he signed new contract with RM or is he still available for free this summer
Saw an article the other day linking him to a move to some German team so I assume he still hasn't signed a new contract.
