Not done much wrong, but been quiet since the Newcastle game and we actually have pretty fierce competition for places on the wings/in attacking midfield so I think it's not an insult to be left out. Really I think Djuricic and Elia both did nowt against Liverpool, save for Djuricic's early penalty appeals and Elia nutmegging Johnson a minute after he came on (The one highlight of the game). But Djuricic was playing his first game so get's more leeway and I think if he finds his feet he can be the kind of missing link we need in games like the upcoming one, rather than Elia's pace which will be less effective against a side unlikely to advance more than 10 yards away from their own box.

No, no, no, no, no Mikey. The highlight of the game was Targett megging Twatbeard.

That was pretty great too, but he did unfortunately fall on his arse right after!

You have obviously never been on RAWK. most of them are saying we deserved to win the game as Saints offered absolutely nothing past the halfway line in terms of scoring a goal.

Well that's not true. We had one stonewall penalty turned down, plus 2 other good shouts. Mignolet handled outside his box, Mignolet made a couple of good saves.

Liverpool are by far the bigger club with a global support base (which equals TV viewers) that dwarfs Saints. In the world of TV and advertising it is the norm and to be expected that in a fixture like this LFC will be the main focus and more catered too as it pleases more viewers as most are LFC fans who don't care about Southampton.

If Southampton ever grow in the future to the size of LFC on and off the field they will then get the same sort of treatment. Its just football nature and evolution.

How can fanbase size be used to excuse bias? I'm not so blinkered as a fan to understand that the larger clubs will have more time, but that doesn't mean that coverage needs to be actively biased towards them. Perhaps this isn't what you mean, but this was Lamby's complaint (or at least part of it), as was the patronising nature of some of the comment and commentary. I think you would need to be equally blinkered as an LFC fan to disagree with that.

Have to say though, my opinion of Liverpool fans has improved no end after the few posters on this thread. Generally pretty balanced comment.

What a load of Sants tinted spectacles nonsense. Ifs, buts and maybes and they count for absolutely NOTHING.

Football isn't played in ifs, buts and maybes. Its played on grass, in the real world.

Under BR's stewardship LFC have played Saints 6 times and won 4 of them. This idea that somehow Saints is clearly the better team and deserved to win both games is biased Saints hogwash. It wouldn't have been a robbery if Saints took a point from each of this seasons games but no more than that. The only game under BR where Saints were far and away the better team was the 3-1 at St Mary's in BR's first season.

Saints are a good 6/7th placed team. I was surprised in the game at Anfield at your performance but since then I haven't seen anything that makes me think Saints are a genuine top 4 team. They have benefited from Spurs and LFC being in transition seasons with new Manager and/or players and LFC losing the best ST in the world and taking half a season to figure out how to play well again without Luis Suarez in the team. Not to forget also Liverpool not having a ST who could score a goal from, August to February and then having our only DM, Lucas, getting injured for another 2 months.

Next season the natural monied order of the PL will be restored and Spurs and LFC will both finish easily above Saints because they have bigger squads, better players and most importantly more money and thus can afford bigger wages. We can see what a quality side Spurs are becoming now under Poch and with Kane's emergence and its unlikely Liverpool will suffer the same injury problems again next season.

If Saints, as expected, don't finish above Liverpool and Spurs this season, they will never have a better opportunity again.

This dalliance with the top 4 that Saints have had up to now is probably the exception rather than the rule, and unless you go out in the Summer and buy at least £60m Nets worth of top draw proven players and bulk out your squad depth, you won't repeat it next season.

Saints are in danger of having one great season (like Ipswich or Newcastle before them narrowly missing out on CL place), suddenly thinking their billy big bollocks and equals to much bigger clubs like Spurs and Liverpool, then disappearing down the league again when normal order is resumed, as always happens in the PL.

Well, that was as far as I read. I guess the natural arrogance of fans of currently bigger clubs will never change. God help anyone who thinks things could ever change through a different approach.

Wasn't so long ago that Liverpool were a regular "good 6/7th placed team". For the past five seasons. Oh hang on, they managed one season when they managed to bottle it and come second. But only thanks to a freakish number of goals from a talented but vile striker whom their fans adored despite his utter nastiness.

Liverpool fans haven't woken up to the fact that their glory days were in the 80s. Three decades ago. But scousers have a habit of living in the past, so that's OK.

To be frank, the reason those currently bigger clubs haven't changed is that, with the sole exception of Chelsea/City buying their way into the club, they haven't been given any reason to. Since the early days of the PL gave way to the current order, Toela's right...all of the challenges by other clubs have been very short-lived, as the massive financial advantages rise to the fore. Only Everton has had some success upending things, and they i) are historically rather successful themselves, and ii) have done it only intermittently.

To change that attitude is going to require a hell of a lot more than being in or around the top four in February; it'll mean going up against quite a bit of history, toppling it, and then repeating the process. We haven't quite done that yet.

Gotta love the fact that the reason we're above you (and 10 goals better on GD) is because you're having a transitional season. Poor you. Must be hard for you having signed what you thought were our 3 best players for £50m early in the summer, and having them on your pre-season tour no less. You may as well just have admitted that you were a one man team with Suarez, and that the rest of your squad really isn't much better than ours.

Oh, and we've obviously been been injury free by comparison to your hard done by lot, with last year's top scorer Rodriguez out all season, and our best two players Schneiderlin and Alderweireld both having two spells on the sidelines (in a far smaller squad)! Cretin.

Based on what you've said, you are not currently in a transitional season, but last season was like our 'this season' .Stop living on your passed glories. We all know the natural order is, Chelsea, City, United and Arsenal.

Enjoy your plentiful seasons in Europa.

I bet you think the natural order is Liverpool in the top 4 don't you? WRONG. Your time has long gone.

I can't disagree today with ehat you wrote about us, but I can piss my pants at the sheer blind arrogance that you show when considering your own club. I love the fact you use excuses like 'BRs first season', out Striker out', 'our only DM out for 2 months'. For such a big club that is pathetic excuses - want to hear our excuses and injury list as to why we fell away from pushing Ciy and Chelsea (yes, that's tongue in cheek)?

    Open the other eye.

Really quite funny how you've tried to disprove my post, but actually just blindly proved it all the more.

Fair comment, but it sometimes comes across that we have no right to be on the same level as the "BIG" clubs, we surely must be allowed to try for the stars even if we have to work hard to do so? We are justing getting tetchy at the constant negative approach, ignoring what we are doing that is good and seemingly constantly trying to undermine our efforts, I don't believe in some of the conspiracy theories, but too much is going on to be a coincidence, so suspicion will be rife until it is proved otherwise. We are good at the moment, we want to be better, is that not a fair assessment?
