He wasn't busting gut to get in and around the box ,there were a couple of very decent crosses put In with him being noticeable by his absence .

Just looking through the matchday thread and you were posting all the way through Valley. You've got more patience than me to do that from a live game. Can't stand posting from a mobile.

I'm not much taken by Gomis as he's imho screwed us as his job is to score and he doesn't, but it's unfair to label him lazy. Yesterday and v Southampton he was 'busting a gut' often doing Shelvey's job as well as his own and he was in the penalty box when balls were being fired in - he was in a penalty box full of defenders. I was amazed how little effort Jonjo put in yesterday, how many times was he ambling back while others (including Gomis) was trying to get bodies back in to midfield after attacks?
For all the huff and puff the only two clear chances were Ki's, both as a result of good crosses but also because he ghosted in with the Sunderland defence completely ignoring him.
For all the negative comments about Barrow (at the ground) he did manage to get some very quick first time crosses into the penalty area and, although Montero excites, Barrow was the more effective of the two - would I pick him ahead of Jeff? Probably not, but I thought he did offer a lot - he just loses the ball more noticeably than others.

You didnt see the 1 on 1 Gomis had in the first half then. Gomis runs around chasing players deep. I want him busting a gut to get in the box. Comment was made i think on MoD as to why Gomis was never in the box and always on the edge when we were attacking. I dont want to slate him to much even though I dont believe he is that good but he is all we have. I would try Oliviera up top though.

Also, the chance when Gomis was stretching 1st half, from a Barrow cross I think. Some people see what they want to see!!

half chance at best - their keeper had that all the way and Gomis speed over a short distance got him in. We had a few where balls were zinging across the 6 yard box (mostly from Barrow) but Gomis is chastised for living off-side and the speed the ball is played in you either have to be inch perfect, lucky or there needs to be several lurking. I think he should have gone in January but I don't want to be negative.
As for being deep, jeu as with Bony, it was often the only way to get the ball or to have a presence in central midfield. It was noticeable how often Gomis was chasing back while a deeper player, Jonjo, was walking and waving.

Oliviera could be the answer, good shot brought a good save - but he also did a lot of tracking back. Until Oliviera does get games its hard to tell if he's another Vasquez.

Indeed they do. Hardly a good chance. Southampton had several of those last week but they were termed, 'hopeful balls across the goal'.

As Ki managed to do for the goal. He is totally anonymous in the box and does his work where it is not important to us. Sorry just cant take to the guy and hope he is gone in the summer.

Oliviera id the chasing back as technically he was our attacking midfield player and had to track back which you said Shelvey didnt. I would like to see him given a go up top in place of Gomis if not from the start then as a sub and see how he and siggy can link.

That half-chance was actually a good move, that if finished would've been a finely crafted goal!!..

It was the best move of the game but it was still only a half chance given the quality of the goalkeeper's reading of the move.

That the goalkeeper saw an attacking through ball towards his box, is reading the game. It's effin basics..

gomis will get there dont worry about it. He is looking better with every game he plays and he is certainly not the first striker to not score at the beginning of his contract and he wont be the last....If you look you can see many strikers in bigger teams than us struggling to score at the moment, Its the hardest position to play especially if you are the lone striker as it is you who gets all the unnecessary flack most of the time... gomis will come good soon i have no doubt...
