Olsson's agent told the Swedish press the deal collapsed due to a failure to agree personal terms, in a comment that translates as "the agreement was even worse than the one he has with Norwich". He was scornful at the suggestion that snow stopped Olsson arriving in time for the medical, saying that they negotiated for 3 hours and had already had a medical check in advance.
That's at complete odds with what the WBA site are saying! http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015...ate-collapse-of-olsson-and-cole-deals/page/1/ Apart from calling him Jonas Olsson
Linkydink please Dave. I can fully understand players especially overseas players with no sentimental link to a particular club or county wanting to make the most of their short careers. If Olsson is linked with a better club on better money then he would be mad not to sign & I can't see that living in the midlands would be particularly appealing for a Swede.
Mirror are reporting Olsson deal as a failure to agree over relegation clause. Well given that wonder if he was trying to get out in the summer. His agents reportedly said the deal was worse than the one at Norwich. Given that you have to wonder if his heart is really in it here. Sounds to me bit of head up the arse to me
Here's my linkydink! http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/internationell/england/article20257921.ab
I awoke a little disappointed this morning, I have to admit. Would have loved to see Dorrans here - a player who I've admired for a long time. Would have been a fantastic signing, especially at this level. Hopefully a deal can be secured to bring him on loan for the rest of the season - he seemed happy to join. I'm a bit split on Olsson. Wasn't bothered that he was leaving - not bothered that he's staying. Probably doesn't say a lot for his season so far! No idea on Andreu - only seen him once properly and didn't have a great game, but he does seem to have that knack of being in the right place at the right time, breaking from midfield. Could end up a waste of time or could end up being the next Tim Cahill. The main thing was to not lose Redmond in this window. Mission accomplished. Time to kick on and get ourselves firmly rooted in the play off places. Then, who knows.
I guess if Baggies didn't offer him better wages it would be a gamble that they stay up or if Norwich go up. A move to a nice sunny country like Spain or Italy may be on the cards in the summer.
I literally could not agree with this more (apart from the having seen Andreu play once but, cos I haven't). Also hopeful a loan to buy deal can be done for Dorrans, a player j would absolutely LOVE to play for us.
Really disappointed we didn't sign anybody to play wide left. We've never replaced Pilks properly, unless you count Josh-who struggles to last 90 minutes. At least Noone would have addressed this - and by pursuing him, it shows a clear perceived weakness on that flank, whether Lafferty had stayed or not.
Not really. It's another case of a player with plenty of talent who Norwich City have failed to get anything out of. He showed glimpses of his ability and he certainly showed plenty of fight (a bit too much sometimes), but he was never played correctly. Yes he played left side for previous clubs but never in the system we tried to employ him in so often. He's a forward, not a winger. Complete waste of £4m BUT he wouldn't have been had Jerome not been signed in my opinion.
Since Holt left we pissed away about £12m on 2 players wearing the holy #9 Shirt with just 2 goals in return, for a club of our financial status that is ridiculous. The signing of Jerome for £1.5m was an absolute steal. Andreu has bagged 28 goals in 70 which is very good so let's hope he can cut it at Norwich.
From what I can gather, and it is only hear'say, Noone was the intended target to fill that left wing but Cardiff kept moving the goal posts on their valuation and we eventually gave up. Real shame, good player who needs a move to kick start his career again. £2m would have been about right for him I think. Whether we should have had a back up plan, whether we did and it too fell through, or whether Andreu can play that role I don't know. Was Dorrans being viewed as that man? I hope not - he's a central player. Maybe Murphy will come back into the frame.
Think Andreu was played in the middle of a 4141. Could work next to Howson with Johnson or Tettey sitting deeper and hooper or Jerime ahead of them. The left side of that formation is still a problem though, really want murphy to step up and force himself in there but he needs game time to do it. He's capable but bares all the classic hallmarks of youth.
Still for the life of me can't understand why Olsson hasn't at least been tried on the left wing ahead of Garrido at full back. Played there regularly for Blackburn (rated by their fans as his best position) and played for us there in the cup last year and had a stormer, admittedly against Bury but still. Would give the side balance.
Plus tracking back to help Garrido out should be an absolute given - something that could never be said of Pilkington!
The balance of having pace on both wings would be very useful. Garrido might well be our best player of the dead ball too. He got caught woefully out of position several times last season before Olsson came in but but as has been said we've not been good at providing support for our left back for years.
